Have you ever wondered what it's like to be famous--no, in praticular, a singer? Well, you're about to find out.
By the way, my name is Shannon. Shannon Summers. Yep, the way you can remember my name is that there's double s's.
Anyways, let's get to the point. I'm the lead singer of an R&B girl group called, STAR. My three best friends, Tiffany, Angel, and Renee are included in the group, too.
Our group got started when I gathered them all together to join me at a local audition for a huge record label, MCA Records, in 1987. They accepted us and we won with first place and the grand prize was $10,000 in cash! How dope is that?!
Over the years, our famous lives and time in the spotlight was full of glamour, but there's some things that most of our fans don't know about us.
A few times, many times too often, our careers have flopped and I, the lead singer and basically founder of the group, had to rise us up again.
I begged our manager to promote us more and get us more gigs, but he said that he would do that under one condition. What was the catch, you might ask?
I had to do sexual favors for him for three months. Within those three months, STAR was becoming more and more successful as the days went by and added up. Think about it. I was sixteen at the time and I had no clue what else to do about the group. That was just about a year after we debuted.
I honestly had no other choice. I wanted to save my friends and our careers and keep our lifelong dream alive and well.
The bad thing about it is that our manager is none other than my own uncle. I've been silent about this for quite some time now, and I've never told anyone in my family; let alone the group.
Another thing that's pretty dark about our group is that one of the members, Angel, is a drug addict. She hooks up with random drug dealers off the streets of every city we tour in, and I'm impressed at how well she keeps this secret from everyone else outside of STAR.
Now, Tiffany and Renee are normal...I think. I mean, they stay out of trouble and everything so, that's my assumption for those two.
So, I bet you're wondering if we have any connections or friendships with other singers and groups. As a matter of fact, we do.
We are very close friends with a popular R&B group called New Edition. Yep, you guessed it. The same guys who came up with Candy Girl and Mr. Telephone Man. It's just that nowadays, they aren't the same little boys who sung bubblegum pop music.
STAR and New Edition are like the most popular groups out there and we are the most talked about. There have even been rumors where entertainment news outlets think that one of the members are dating me. And that member that they think I'm dating is the lead singer of New Edition, Ralph Tresvant.
I mean, yeah, we are the closest out of everyone else, but that doesn't mean that I'm dating him. Don't get me wrong, he is good looking, but we aren't dating. Let me repeat myself: WE ARE NOT DATING!
Here's a little backstory for you. New Edition and STAR have been very close friends since we were all in Kindergarten and first grade. Yes, we've known each other for that long. Way before they came out with Candy Girl in '83.
We grew up in the same area, hung out with each other almost every day. It was a pretty close friendship and it still is. They're like brothers to us and we're their sisters....basically.
So, you wanna get on with my story now? I know you would love to know the inside, private life of STAR that our fans don't get to see. Hey, you'll even get a better feel of how our relationship with New Edition is. Let's go!
