Dylan woke up to the sound of innocent giggles passing through his ears. Blinking, he got rid of the sleep laced in his eyes and decided to figure out where the abundances of joyful sounds were coming from. In his awakened state, he notice mini – petite even, pair of hands all up in his face and disheveled hair.
"Good morning, Daaaaaddy!" Izzy, short for Isabella shrieks right into his left ear while giving him their ritual morning hug. This 5-year old ray of sunlight never ceased to amaze Dylan with her eternal good mood and affection. He was planning to cherish these days as much as he could, before his lovely daughter decides to be a moody teenager who's persistent about diminishing the importance of their daily, and nonetheless sacred ritual.
"Morning, love." Dylan say fondly, clearly amused about the way she can't say the letter 'R' and where her hands are currently situating. Enveloping her in his arms, he stood up and made his way to the kitchen. He left his bed unkempt seeing as though he had quite an energetic toddler in his embrace. "What do you want for breakfast, princess?" He asked after sitting her down in one of the stools near their breakfast nook.
"I wanna have bacon and eggs and sausages and sandwiches and..." She kept rambling on and on while he prepared the frying pan and waited for the inevitable answer to spring out her tiny little mouth. "You only get to choose one thing, sweetie." Dylan chuckled and watch as her frown grew.
After watching her sort out her favorite food in her head, he stepped aside to fetch the ingredients for the breakfast he was going to make. "Pancakes! I wanna have pancakes!" Bingo. With all the ingredients sorted, he turned the stove on, ready to whip up some of his famous pancakes.
It has never been the same since Isabella came into Dylan's life. Five years ago, his best friend Angela lost her life in a car accident, and seeing as though her parents were long gone and the rest of her relatives distant, it was natural that Isabella was given to Dylan. Being her godfather and all. Life before Izzy seemed hard to imagine now, even if it only has been five years.
The man that Dylan was today had hardly anything in common with the man he was before. His only purpose of living at that time was to work and take care of his dog Bean – a fully-grown, white and auburn Siberian husky who's underdeveloped and a lot smaller than the average husky.
Battling depression was also one of Dylan's day-to-day activities. A black void in his head and heart made every single day a struggle to get through, until Isabella came into his life. Seeing those green gloomy eyes, small body features and fragile demeanor he knew he had to pull it together to be able to take care of this wonderful child.
Dylan thought taking care of her would have taken a toll on him due to his sickness, but it turned out to be quite the opposite. She soon became the light of his life, beaming past the black void to fill his heart with love, happiness and fulfillment.
"Daddy, I hafta go to school!" Dylan's thoughts came to a halt and his head snapped to the other side of the room where the clock is situated. "Shi-cheese! We got to get you dressed up, baby girl." She giggled. "Not a baby, Daddy! Izzy grown up!" He turned the stove off and packed some of the pancakes into her lunch bag. She could just help herself to eat when they were situated in the car and on-route to the preschool.
Dylan carried her up the stairs and into her room to help her get changed. Of course, her favorite denim overall was something she was very adamant about wearing, even though it's summer and too hot outside for something like that.
"You'll always be my baby girl, Izzy, no matter what." Dylan say sadly when the thought of her growing up slips through his mind. As if his sadness was a blowing whistle, Bean came sprinting in to Izzy's room to cheer him up. "Come on, Bean. Let's get Izzy to her preschool."
