"Hi sweetie, did you have fun at the preschool today?" Dylan questioned as he helped her fasten the harness of her car seat. She seemed really excited to get in the car the moment Dylan arrived at her preschool, exclaiming that she wanted time to go faster so that she could finish her taekwondo class and finally visit her Nana and Grandpa.
Since they live at the other side of town, distancing their houses by a 15-minute drive, visiting them easily became a twice-a-week-activity. After the initial shock of the death of his best friend, his parents were delighted when they figured out that Dylan had adopted Izzy, seeing as though they treated her as a grandchild from the moment she came into the world.
"Yeah Daddy! I made a drawing of you, Nana, Grandpa and me! Look!" He took a quick peak at the rear-view mirror so that he could look at his daughter's drawing without turning around.
"That's wonderful, honey. Take good care of it so you can show it to Nana and Grandpa after your taekwondo class." As if the mention of them was a cue, Dylan's phone started to ring with his mother waiting on the other line, impatiently he imagined.
With the Bluetooth on, Dylan press the button near the steering wheel to answer the call. "Hi ma, I'm driving Izzy home to get ready for taekwondo, I'll drive by to pick up the grocery list while she's in class." Dylan loved his mother to death. God bless her soul for being the best mother and doing everything she could do to make life easier for him, but if there's something she can't do, it's texting.
Teaching her to use a smartphone for calling was one of the hardest things Dylan had to do in his entire life, even harder than the bar exam, so texting is obviously out of the picture.
"It's fine, honey. There's no rush. Drive safely and say hi to little Izzy for me." After saying their goodbyes, he pressed the button again and within minutes they were back at the house gathering her suit, armors and bag. The decision to enroll Isabella for taekwondo lessons was purely Dylan's own selfish attempt to ease his mind.
Since Dylan already dreaded the day he would eventually be sending her off to college, he figured that letting her go would be much easier if he knew that she could rip a dude's balls off. He'd hate to go all Liam Neeson "Taken-edition" on the fuckers that decides to hurt her in the future, not that it would be a hardship to do so, seeing as though he'd also taken taekwondo lessons since I was ten.
After driving Izzy to her lessons and dropping swiftly by his parents' house to retrieve the grocery list, Dylan was now standing at the dairy aisle at Walmart trying to find the non-fat soy milk so that his mom could make her special braised pork with lemon and sage recipe. He loved his parents to death and would gladly take a bullet for either of them, but the one thing that he does not love about them is their persistency and tenaciousness to talk about Dylan's non-existing love life. He knew that he hasn't been on a date since Izzy was brought to him, but it just didn't seem like a good idea for men to walk in and out of his life especially now that Izzy is a big part of it.
