Shane's POV

The following week, we made a doctor's appointment for Alex, so we could get an idea on how long the transition from female to male would be, as he was only four years old.

"Look.... Shane... Ryland..." Doctor Stephens said. "I don't know what to say about this... other than, we cannot be doing this at a young age. She could outgrow this dysphoria.. After all she-"

"He.." Ryland said. "You said she. Alex is our son."

"No.. Alex is a girl, now don't interrupt me.."

"Then tell us the real reason why you don't want to help us.." I said. "Because all you're saying right now is that Alex is a girl."

"She is only four years old. Wait until she is growing up, and come back.. but I am not promising to help you.. especially with the attitude I'm being given.." The doctor said.

"We just want to help our son become who he really is. Why is that hard for you to understand? I've read about a this same situation happening to a little Australian kid. They began transitioning before the first day of kindergarten, and all we are asking of you... is to help us. This is only a consultation like you said on the phone.." Ryland said. "So, nothing will happen immediately, right?" The doctor nodded. "Then let's all just talk about this..." He laid his hand on mine, on my leg, and wrapped his other arm around Alex.

"Okay.... We can take a look at Alex.. and see what our first step will be... when.. they.. are older, though.."

"How long?" Alex asked.

"I don't know.." Doctor Stephens said. "Let's see how developed you are.."

"I would say... before age nine, we can start hormone blockers to prevent female puberty... maybe ten or eleven by the latest... we can try Alex on testosterone... and see if we can completely stun the female growth. You will still have female reproductive organs, but not breasts.. we can discuss full transitioning surgery when you're much older, okay?" He spoke to us, then to Alex about the end of the process. "Since he's so young, I must warn that the medications may cause serious health issues, but these are rare. I'm unsure how easy this will end up...."

"Thank you.." Alex said.

"You're welcome.... but I have to say... I am very sorry for yelling. You're a beautiful child... and if you say you're a boy, and your dads have it on your birth certificate that you're male, then you're a boy.." He gave Alex a hug. "You're a special little kid, and I'm proud you are so sure of yourself at a young age.."

"Thank you.." Alex giggled. "Again.."

"You're very welcome.."

Before we knew it, Alex was turning eight, and it was time to start the hormone blockers. He was extremely excited and begged us to help him set up a YouTube channel to talk about his transition.

"Hey guys!" He said to the camera. Reid, who was almost six, was sitting next to him, waving to the camera. "I'm Alex Yaw, and yes... You're going to start questioning why Shane and Ryland have two sons all of a sudden.." Alex started giggling. "Well.... This..." He showed a picture of himself as a girl. "This was Annie.... Annabelle Marie Yaw. This was me.... was. At the age of three, I was so scared to even think about the person I had a crush on.... but by the age of four, I came out as transgender. So, now... I'm Alex Miles Yaw, I'm eight years old, and I'm going to be here for a long time.." He smiled, then asked us to sit with him.

    "Look at us.... a family of guys..." Ryland said.

    "We're a mess..." Reid laughed.

    "He's right.." I said. "But as dysfunctional as we may be.... this is us.."

    "I'll be back tomorrow with another video to talk about my journey in depth.." Alex said. "But for now... I'll see you guys next time!" He did my signature goodbye, then shut off the camera.

    "Since when did you become a tech savvy kid?" Ryland asked, watching Alex hurry to the computer to edit.

    "Dad didn't just let me watch him film.." He smiled. "I helped him with editing.."

    "I taught him the best.." I smirked. Ryland pushed me, giggling. "What?"

    "You didn't even give me editing tips.." He laughed, but wrapped his arms around me, kissing my neck. "But I forgive you...."

     That night, we could hear Alex filming another video before he went to bed, and the following day was his doctor's appointment for the blockers. He insisted on vlogging the trip to the doctor, and showed the camera various clips he was allowed to take during his appointment.

    "Now, this patch around the blocker may be sore for a while, but the pain will go away.." Doctor Stephens said. "The medicine to halt your female puberty is in this, and we're going to update the hormone blocker you had at age six to better ensure your development will be purely male.."

    "So when can I start the testosterone?" Alex asked.

    "We're going to continue with these for another year, make sure they're working properly, and then by the time you're twelve, we will give you male hormones to ready your body for male puberty. Get ready for your voice to change.." He smiled. "Now, I'm going to ask you this again.... You're one hundred percent sure you want to do this?"

    "Yes.." Alex said. "I'm not Annabelle. I'm Alex. I'm a boy..."

    "Okay.." Doctor Stephens said. "Then a boy you shall be..."

Alex ran inside to the computer to start editing his newest video, while Ryland made lunch. I let Reid watch Spongebob, and I went to help Ryland. I wrapped my arms around him while he stood by the counter, preparing hamburgers.

"Hey.." He said. "Whatcha doing?"

"Holding onto what's mine.." I smiled. "Need some help?"

"You can make the fries.." Ryland kissed me and said.
