KALILA
“Honey, what’s wrong?”
I look over at my boyfriend, Mitch. Mitch was a very powerful angel. He was sent to protect me from my father and sister when I was fifteen, and we have been together ever since. “Nothing’s wrong babe. Go back to sleep.”
“Okay, my angel. I love you,” he said as he rolled over and soon started lightly snoring.I sighed heavily and got out of the huge bed. I put on my bunny slippers and walked to the living room. The room was covered in huge glass windows looking over the beautiful New York City skyline. I plopped down on the oversized sofa and let out a frustrated, “Urgh!”
Everyone always thought my life is so easy. Well, let me tell you, it is not. I’m constantly being told what to do; managers making me do five shows a week plus appearances, Heaven constantly telling me what to make the humans do, and my mother constantly nagging me about, well, everything. Oh, and my sister is always trying to kill me. I feel so bad for my poor security team. The naive humans think the worse they will have to face is a few drunk guys trying to get with me. Little do they know, that my twin sister is constantly waiting to rip them apart with her razor sharp teeth, claws, and muscles that are literally as hard as steel!
I have tried to make amends with her so many times, but I can’t stop her from wanting to kill me and turn the entire human race into her own personal slaves. She already has a pretty decent following of men she makes fall in love with her. She constantly is sending them out to create havoc; some are in jail and some I was able to control with my singing before it went too far, but everyday she creates more and more followers. My sister and I used to be best friends. Yea, she was always a little cranky, but we did everything together. Until, our father approached her when we were fourteen. Our father, Quinn, is an evil man. He works side by side with the devil and longs to take over the world. He is just using my sister, but she can’t see that! She is just angry about getting kicked out of Heaven.
Just then, a knock came from my balcony door. I jumped nearly five feet in the air. I look to the glass door to see my mother folding her white wings into her back on the balcony. I groan as my mother bursts through the door singing, “Hello dear!”
“Mom quiet down! You’ll wake Mitch.”
“She already has,” Mitch said as he stumbled in the room, rubbing his sleep filled eyes. He was only wearing pajama pants, allowing view of rock hard abs and perfectly toned muscles. He sank down next to me on the couch and I ran my hand through his curly blonde hair. I looked into his gorgeous blue eyes and gave him a quick peck on the lips before returning my attention to my mother, who was literally waltzing around the room, picking up trash from the party that night.
My mother, Alexandria, used to be the most powerful, influential angel in all of Heaven. She worked as an advisor to God himself. She has long, gorgeous blonde hair that she usually pulls back into a tight, sleek ponytail. She has eyes that are so green that even now, when she is all the way across the room, I can see them radiating. Since her and our whole family is immortal, she still looks like she is about twenty-five years old. She is wearing white pants, a plain white t-shirt, and white four inch freaking heels. People often mistake her as my sister instead of my mom. I love her so much. She is such a sweet lady, but she always looks so sad since she got kicked out of Heaven. She didn’t deserve to get kicked out. My father had pretended to be another angel, and he seduced her to try to get to God. I hated him so much!
“Mom?” She kept on cleaning. “Moooom?” Still no answer. “MOM!?”
“Hmmm? Oh, yes deary?”
“Is there a reason you are here?”
“Oh, uhm yea. Mitch texted me. Said you were acting upset,” she said carelessly as she still cleaned up the room.
“He did what?” I asked looking directly at Mitch who was cowering to the other side of the couch.
“Oh, don’t be upset with him,” my mom said as she turned on her incredibly tall heels to look at me, “a mother deserves to know what is going on with her daughter.”
“You do have two of them,” I mumbled under my breath.
“Is that what this is about?” She asked as she came to sit next to me on the couch.
“Katrina was watching me again. I love her, I know she can be good if she just tries, but the fire cloud that shot into the sky says that she isn’t planning anytime soon.”
Mitch scooted closer and put his arm around me, “Babe, she isn’t going to be able to hurt you as long as I’m here. No one will.”
Sighing, I said, “I know, but I just wish she would change so we could all be a family again. It’s all Quinn’s fault!”
My mother, whose face had glazed over as I was talking about her other daughter, snapped out of her trance at the mention of my father, “Don’t you ever mention that name around me, ever!”
“Sorry mom.”
“I don’t care what anyone says, that man is the devil! As long as he is in your sister’s life then she is not my daughter!”
“Mom.”
“I mean it Kalila. That girl is not your sister. She has betrayed this family. She is just as bad as him.”“Mom! She is my sister and your daughter! We have to guide her back to the path of righteousness!” I screamed just as my mother’s hand flew through the air, smacking my cheek. I looked up at her stunned.
“Oh my gosh sweetie! I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me,” my mother cooed as she held my face gently in her hands.
I took a few steps back from her in shock. My mother had never hit me, not once in twenty-one years had she hit me. “I...I... I am going to go to bed now,” I mumbled as I turned around and ran to my room, but not before I heard my mom call out to me about having a show tomorrow afternoon.
“Why on Earth did you do that!” Mitch snapped at Alexandria once Kalila had left the room.
“I... I’m not sure. I just got so angry. You do realize that she is going to have to let go of any bond with her sister if she is going to be able to fulfill the prophecy, right?” Alexandria said to him in a whisper.
“I am well aware.”
“You also realize you will have to let go of her?”
“I am aware of the freaking prophecy Alexandria!” Mitch snapped.
“Keep your voice down. You don’t want Kalila to hear. She would be so upset.”
In one fluid motion, Mitch crossed the space between him and Alexandria and grabbed her shoulders. He growled at her, “I know what I have to do, but I don’t need your snobby little ass walking in here and ruining everything I have with her before the time comes.”
Alexandria chuckled to herself, “It looks like someone is in love with his work.”
“You bet I am,” Mitch said as he turned his back on Alexandria and went to the bedroom.
