KALILA

Running. Why was I running? I couldn’t stop. Circles. Running in circles. Trees. I was in a forest full of trees. Branches. The branches tugged at me. Getting caught in my hair and in my clothes. I couldn’t stop running. Only one thought went through my mind. Keep running.

I stopped running and entered a clearing. The woods was dark and cold. Strange noises protruded from the forest in all directions. Taking a deep breath, I sat down in the middle of the clearing. Just as my breathing seemed to calm, a low rumble came from across the clearing. I lifted my head and saw a large, red wolf.

Jumping from the spot on the clearing floor, I stood ready to face the wolf. The wolf started stalking towards me, baring its canines. I took a step backwards as a fierce growl escaped from the wolf. The wolf started circling me. I panicked. I was at the mercy of the wolf, simply just waiting for it to go in for the kill. The wolf jumped forward as if it was about to strike, but an invisible force seemed to hold it back. This happened several more times, the wolf would lunge forward and be stopped. The wolf stopped circling right in front of me. It seemed to be staring right into my eyes. I noticed the intriguing blue eyes of the wolf and stepped forward in wonder. The wolf leaped forward towards me and was not stopped. I cringed as it came at me full force.

The wolf soared towards my face. I waited for impact. And it never came. Wind. Wind swirling around me. The wind was spinning me in circles. I threw my arms out and let the wind take me wherever it had in mind. Closing my eyes, I let the wind rush over my face and blow through my hair. Then, I felt my feet leave the ground. The wind was picking me up, twirling me around, and carrying me high into the sky. I looked down and saw the world far below. But I felt no fear. A weird sense of calm was watching over me.

When I opened my eyes again, I was standing on a beautiful, fluffy cloud. Throwing my arms in the air, I spun around. Happy as can be and taking in the beautiful atmosphere on the cloud above the world. At that moment, I felt a strong pair of hands grace my shoulders. I spun around to see a handsome man with blue eyes and spiky brown hair. The man wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me in.

His lips were so smooth. The softness of those round perfect lips blew me away. And it was so warm--the warmest kiss that has ever been bestowed upon me. It was sweet and simple. There was no whorish tongue rubbing involved. Just plain old simple and sweet but yet filled with so much passion.

He pulled away, leaving me longing for more. Smiling down at me, I could see the love and care in his eyes. I snuggled back into his arms. His embrace was filled with warmth and his strong muscles held me fast.

He bent down and whispered into my ear, “Wake up, Kalila.” Then, still holding me in his arms, we jumped off the cloud.

I awoke.

Mitch was shaking my shoulders. “Wake up, Kalila. Come on honey. Wake up.”

I slowly stirred awake. “Wha... What? Where am I?” I mumbled regaining my senses.

“You are home, honey,” Mitch pointed to the attractive man standing behind him. “Jay here brought you home. Thank goodness he did. It sounds like you could’ve been in some real trouble.

The memories slowly came back to me. Memories of Quinn at the prison, Jay saving me, and my very vivid dream. Jay was staring intensely at me. I blushed, remembering kissing him in my dream. There had been so much love flowing through me when I had kissed him. It felt so real.

I looked up at Jay. “Well, Uhm... Thanks for saving me I guess.”

“It was my pleasure,” he said bending down and setting a gentle kiss upon my hand.

I gasped. The kiss! It sent shocks through my system. Just like in the dream, it felt so warm and sweet. I could feel his soft lips on my hand and I never wanted him to pull away. But all too quickly he pulled back and blushed.

I sat up on the couch and Mitch put his arm around me. “I’m so glad you are safe honey. I don’t know what I would have done if anything bad had happened to you. I love you so much.”

He lifted my face to his and put a delicate kiss across my lips. But I felt nothing. None of the sparks I had gotten with Jay in the dream or even in the kiss he had given me seconds ago. It was just a normal kiss.

Mitch stood from the couch and put his hand out for Jay to take, “Thanks so much again man.”
Jay looked at me with his piercing blue eyes, “Anything for a pretty lady.”
“Seriously man,” Mitch said. “I don’t know what I would have done if I lost her. Its just such good luck that you were there.... What were you doing there?”
Jay nervously looked at his shoes, “Well... Uhm... I don’t want to say. It’s embarrassing.”
“Oh come one man. I don’t care. You saved my love.”
“Uhm... Well.... I was an inmate in the prison. The guard that was watching me left so I took my chance and escaped. When I was leaving I heard a man talk about Kalila. I recognized her name because...well, who doesn’t know Kalila. So, I went to go help her.”
“And thank god you did, man... What were you in the prison for?”
Jay laughed. “Well... Let’s just say that Hell has hated me for a very long time.”
“Well, we can relate to that,” Mitch said slapping his hand across Jay’s back. “Well, can I get you anything? Water, soda, tea?”
    “Oh, I’ll have some water.”
Mitch went into the kitchen and filled a small glass with water. He then brought it back to Jay, “Here you go man.”
    “Thanks so much.”
No one talked for a little bit and an awkward silence filled the room. So, I decided to speak up. “So, Jay. Where will you go now? Do you live on Earth or in Heaven?”
    “Heaven. With my father.”
    “Oh. Who is your father?”

Just then little Love ran in the room. She immediately ran over to Jay and sat next to him on the couch, cuddling up next to him. He put his hand down to pet her and she licked at it sweetly. Both Mitch and I stared in shock.

When Jay noticed he looked at us questioningly, “What?”
“How are you doing that!” We both yelled at the same time.
“Doing what?” Jay asked casually, still petting little Love.
“Getting her to behave!” I said.
Jay chuckled, “Why wouldn’t she be behaving? She is such a little sweetie.” He started talking to little Love in a high pitch voice, “Aren’t you. Aren’t you just the sweetest little thing. Yes you are. You cute little bunny bear.” Mitch and I just continued to stare in shock.
Just then, little Love jumped off the couch and started circling around the carpet, the tell tale sign that she was about to do her business right here in the house. “Oh shit,” Mitch said, grabbing her and heading to the door.
“Hurry Babe!” I yelled as he ran out to get little Love outside... or someplace where we wouldn’t have to clean up after her.

Jay chuckled slightly. As the door slammed closed after Mitch. We both stared at each other awkwardly, not knowing what to say. In the silence, Jay leaned forward to grab his glass off of the coffee table. He took a sip and then put it back on the table, where I stared at it shocked. Then I looked up at Jay--my eyes wide. Jay was doing everything to avoid my gaze, for what had been water moments ago, was now a deep red wine.
