. . . isn't that easy

IT was the next day and the girls had gotten permission of the town council to place a bench in Alison's name. The girls already had a place in mind for the bench.

"How bad did your mum bust you for wrecking Sean's car?" Emily asked as they walked towards the bench they were going to replace.

"Okay, I did not wreck it. I damaged it," Hanna corrected Emily, "and, actually, everyone's being really mature about it."

"Oh." Was all Aria said and it still got a response from Hanna.

"There's no 'oh'. We're just being grown-ups, that's all." Hanna said.

"Okay," Aria started wanting to get back on track, "so the town is going to put in a new bench, and we'll plant the flowerbeds, and there's gonna be a pathway of art tiles." Aria and Lavender had planned the art tiles as they were the artier of the five.

"Art tiles?" Spencer asked.

"Messages, pictures, memories of Alison." Lavender clarified.

"Oh, like little headstones." Hanna teased.

"Hanna." Lavender said in disapproval.

"What?" Hanna asked innocently.

"We should each do a tile." Emily cut in, getting them back on track.

"I've had Alison's bracelet since the day we found it in the woods━" Hanna started before Lavender cut in.

"Yesterday." Lavender corrected.

"━and I don't want the responsibility anymore." Hanna continued, not caring about the correction, as she held out the bracelet for one of the others to take.

But none of them did.

"I don't want it." Aria said as she crossed her arms.

"Seriously, somebody take this." Hanna urged as she looked over all the girls.

Eventually Spencer took it from the blonde. "We're acting like children." Spencer said to the girls, though they all knew it was true.

"There's nothing A can say or do to get us into trouble without making trouble for herself." Spencer declared.

I could think of a few, Lavender thought as she remembered some of the things the girls had done.

"Are you sure it's a her?" Hanna asked.
