. . . party party

"WHOSE idea was this again?" Hanna asked as her and the girls walked through the greenery to where they used to hang out when they were younger.

"Emily's mum." Lavender sighed as she moved a branch out of her way. She wasn't wearing heels.

"The shed was me, my mum just said we should do something for us." Emily corrected Lavender, in front of all the girls.

"Well couldn't we do something without mosquitoes?" Hanna asked rhetorically as she tried to swipe the bugs away.

"They're not mosquitoes they're gnats." Aria correct Hanna as she walked down a small numb in the path, trying not to fall over.

"Whatever!" Hanna said before she tripped over in her heals, grabbing onto Jade in time not to fall. "They're small and annoying and they're flying up my nose." Hanna continued to complain as she continued walking.

"Oh, they're attracted to your perfume," Spencer replied sarcastically, "and your hair product, and your lip gloss." Spencer continued from behind all the girls.

"So, what are you saying?" Hanna asked as she turned back to Spencer, who was behind her. "I attract flies?"

"Gnats." Aria corrected again.

"Why do I feel like this is the wrong way?" Emily asked, changing the subject, as they all came to a stop in front of a large tree.

"Because we've been walking for what seems like forever and we're not there yet." Lavender put in her opinion. She didn't see the point of doing whatever Emily had planned for them. Sure, she missed Alison but finding out she was dead only confirmed what she told herself that time the year before.

All the girls turned to give Lavender an unimpressed look as she crossed her arms next to Hanna. "Sorry. Didn't have coffee this morning." She apologised quietly.

"This is the right way. I remember that tree." Spencer said answering Emily's question, as she pointed to the large tree they stopped at. "It's the halfway point. There's one-hundred-and-thirty-six steps left the shed."

"Have you been out here since Alison?" Emily asked as she was surprised how well Spencer remembered going to the shed.

"Me? No." Spencer said as she crossed her arms. "No way."

"But you remember that tree." Aria added to what Emily said as she pointed to the tree.

"Guys, I remember that tree." Lavender defended Spencer. "We came out here every day in eighth grade and after."
