Subway

Today I had to work late so I had to take the underground subway as I couldn't find a single cab home.

As I buy my ticket. I notice that I am the only one there, and it was quite normal as mostly people don't take the tube rail to travel after 9 at night.

I take a look at my watch. "12 past 10" I say to myself as I board the metro.

I always loved the seat next to the door as it was the most convenient spot to get in and out. So that's where I sit, right in front of the door I entered from. No one on the metro, just me, so to take my mind off of the fact that I was a lone 42 year old man, on a tube rail at night, I start looking through my phone when the train stops at the next platform, a young girl, most probably in her twenties, walks into the same compartment I was in.

I glance at her for a few seconds, she had long jet black hair which covered a part of her face, her skin pale, face expressionless. She goes and sits in the corner of the compartment.

I look back at my phone, thinking she might also be someone who was running late.

Just as the metro takes up speed I see from the corner of my eyes that she walks over to me and sits opposite to me. I look up, she is staring at me, her face still emotionless.

I smile at her, but she doesn't smile back. Now feel uncomfortable and start going through random things on my phone. She sits still, her eyes not moving away from me as I tense up. And to get rid of this tension I try to make small talk.

"Hi, I'm Ro-" I am cut off as the lights in the train go out as soon as we enter a tunnel.

Just after a few seconds the light comes back on, but the girl, the girl was not there.
I look to my right and my left.

Nothing.

I was completely alone again, no one on the compartments on either side of me.

The train is still going on full speed. "Hello?" I call out. Still nothing. Where did she go.

A small chill runs down my spine as I stand up and start pacing on the train and finally get down on the next stop even though it was far from my station.

I walk straight to the ticket counter and ask them about that girl. They check their documents and look at me confused, they tell me no one else go down nor got up in the past hour except for me. "But I know what I saw" I say. "What did you see, Sir? Could you describe the girl please?" They ask me, and I do. Their face changes from confused to shocked as I tell them every single detail.

The guy inside the counter then searches through the documents as if in a hurry and finally finds a picture showing it to me. "Is that her?" He asks breathlessly as I nod a yes. "That was her" I say pointing at the picture. The mans face runs pale as he lets me know, " That girl's name is Sonia.". I nod again, gesturing him to continue. "She used to work for us,"

"When one day she fell onto the rails where she died after being hit by the train."
