chapter one | a discovery
3:28pm

i sat on a dock, my feet dangling down.
my toes skimmed the top of the chilly early autumn water.
my eyes lingered along the shore where my friends messed around.
"god, what a bunch of adolescent boys they are," spoke my best friend from my side.

i lightly smiled and nodded, looking at her with squinted eyes and a hand raised to my forehead, blocking the bright rays of the sun from blurring my vision.

it was a cold day to be at the lake, but i had been invited to romeo beckham's lake house and asked to bring friends.
well, specifically female friends, and only one of my female friends wanted to come, so i had to ask guy friends to come with too.

"do you think he's cute?" sadie asked, tilting her head towards the sky, the sun glowing on her flawless skin.
my heart skipped a beat, i believed i knew who she was talking about, but i still questioned it.
"hmm?" i softly hummed, it rung through my ears.

sadie swung her head down and stared onto the shore, a light rose shade became noticeable on her cheeks.
"oh nevermind," she whispered, a shy tone in her quiet speech.

i gave her arm a light friendly squeeze as i bit back laughter, sadie never liked when people laughed at her, even if it wasn't in a rude way.
we both placed our eyes upon our boy friends again as they did their own thing about the shore.

"i'm going to be back, i want to see if you know who wants to go to dinner with me tonight," sadie said excitedly.

she got up, winking at me as she looked back, walking down the dock.

i dropped my head down and listened to birds fly about in the sky and call from the trees surrounding the lake.
it was peaceful, i felt like if i could drown out every sound, i might be able to feel the world turning.

i didn't realize i had closed my eyes until i heard a twig snap as someone went by.

my sight followed a certain someone as he ran around the lake, going to the end of it in which trees were starting to engulf in a green mess.

oh sweet curiosity.

i waved softly as he noticed me looking, but he didn't wave back. my heart sunk in the slightest bit.
he just stood there, his head turning from the edge of the water, to me sitting on the dock.

sadie came back, sitting beside me.
she began to speak, but my ears blurred out every word she was saying at i looked at him.

he slowly raised a hand and motioned for me to come over to him, a confused look plastered to his face.

i got up, sadie questioning me to where i was going.
"um, he wants me for something," i explained, having no knowledge of what he needed me over there for.
"oh alright, make sure to kiss the frog, maybe he'll turn into a prince!" she joked, looking over at me as i walked down the dock.

my feet carried me quickly around the lake, i was careful not to step on any thorn or twig.
the sun beat down on me, i was longing to stand in the shaded area in which finn was standing.

"what do you need me for?" i asked as i approached him, crossing my arms over my chest.
he raised a hand, dropped it to his side and then raised it again, pointing to the water.
