Moonkit padded around the clearing toward the nursery, and Dovekit popped her head out of the bramble opening.
"Hi, Moonkit! What's new? Patchtail cough up a fur ball again?" Dovekit purred in amusement. Moonkit also let out a purr.
"No, only if you count him as a fur ball!" Moonkit said as Dovekit came out and sat in front of Moonkit.
"Well, I talked to Fawnpelt and she said she can show us part of the forest!" Moonkit said in a purr.
"Really? When?!"
"Whenever we're ready!"
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Moonkit lead the the way to Fawnpelt, she was washing herself below Great Branch.
"Ah, so your ready?" Fawnpelt murmured to the kits.
"We're ready!" Moonkit purred as she followed Fawnpelt through the mossy log that led out of the clearing.
"Where are we going first, Fawnpelt?" Dovekit asked in a mew.
"The first place I went when I was a kit, the Great Stream." Moonkit and Dovekit exchanged glances.
"What's the Great Stream?" Moonkit asked at last.
"You'll see." Fawnpelt mewed simply.
When they arrived, they beheld a great stream filled with fish.
"Wow!" Dovekit squeaked in amazement.
"Look at the size of that fish!" Moonkit purred as a salmon jumped out of the shimmering water.
"You see, Stormclan came to try and claim this place as their own right before you were born. That's why their low on warriors and apprentices, we turned them to crowfood!" Fawnpelt purred as she pretended she was fighting Stormclan warriors.
"Woah!" Dovekit squeaked, her eyes wide. Moonkit's eyes sparkled with pride that her clan had won.
Fawnpelt padded up to the stream and dropped into a fish hunting position. A salmon jumped out of the water and Fawnpelt caught it between her teeth.
"One for the fresh-kill pile." Fawnpelt murmured through her teeth. Fawnpelt told stories of when she was a kit, and how brave she was in battle, until she finally brought them back to camp.
Fawnpelt dropped her catch in the pile of fresh-kill and padded into her den. Only then did Dovekit and Moonkit realize that it was almost moonhigh.
"We were out there that long?!" Dovekit murmured.
"Guess so." Moonkit mewed as Otterheart started to approach them. Dovekit and Moonkit exchanged glances again. Did they do something wrong?
Just then, Ottetheart begin to speak.
"I think you two are ready to be apprenticed, hmm?" Moonkit and Dovekit's eyes both lit up with excitement.
"Really?!" Purred Moonkit looking up at Ottetheart. He gave a curt nod
"Your naming will be tomorrow." Moonkit and Dovekit purred loudly and padded off to the nursery. They curled up into their nests and slowly drifted into sleep. Just then, Moonkit awoke at Moonhigh. Her paws led her out of the nursery and into the middle of the clearing. She lifted her head and looked straight up at the moon. Her eyes grew wide and her tail shook. It was a message from Starclan.
"Young Moonkit, you are destined to do great things, as I was." It was a she-cat's gentle voice that spoke.
"Who are you? Where am I?" Moonkit asked as a blue-grey shape appeared.
"I was once the leader of Thunderclan. I'm Bluestar."
