Phasing Heart

The....Mirror Call? And A Flashback~

     When I make sure no one is around, I go over to the mirror in the room and breathe on it. In the fog I write a set of numbers in it and suddenly my friend Rin, A.K.A Crimson Magic, had replaced my reflection.

     "Oh my god, Kai! It's been a hot minute, how are you? Is that a new place, it looks nice. What's Ivan up to?" She has always been maybe a little too cheerful. Rin is my closest friend next to Ivan. Or at least Ivan was my friend.

     I explain, "Hi Rin. It has been a bit. This is a new place, but Ivan is gone."

     "What? What happened?"

     "W-well, um...To put tings short. Ivan had a chance to pick me or be popular. He chose the popularity and h-h-he l-left m-m-me." I broke down into tears. I don't know why it's so hard for me to accept the fact he doesn't want me anymore.

     "No way! That BASTARD! How could that prick hurt my Little Pixie?!"  She's furious now. But I feel slightly better since she called me her 'Little Pixie' for some reason. Rin's facial expression then changed quickly, I don't know how she does it. "Wait....Where are you then?" OH! Now I understand. She's confused.

     "I-I'm at Sound Barrier's mansion." Now she's scared. I should stop telling her stuff. All of these faces she is pulling off will get stuck one day.

     "Why are you there?! I'll come save you!"

     "No no no no! It's okay! Part of the deal that Ivan made was that I'm Sound Barrier's new sidekick. Wow, so quick to judgement."

     "First he left. Now you're stuck with the most dangerous man alive. Ivan is so dead."

     "D-Don't bother him. It's bad enough he's alone now." Just then I heard a knock at the door followed by a "Mr. Phaze? Are you ready?" Probably from a guard because that didn't sound like Sound Barrier. I answered, "Just a moment!"

     "Looks like they need you. I'll see ya later okay?"

     "Alright. Bye Rin."

     "Bye Kai~. Oh, and stay strong for me." The mirror then went back to my reflection. My eyes were sorta puffy from the small cry I just had. A man came in and gestured me to follow him out. To which I did. Follow him that is. To be honest, I don't know how to act with a bunch of guards around me.

     He took me to Sound Barrier and he proceeded to show me around. The house was huge. Guess that's why it's called a mansion. I'm a fucking moron sometimes and I hate that. My favorite place by far has to be the backyard. It seems settling with it's large garden and small pond with benches put down here and there.

     "You are welcome to go anywhere you would like. Dinner will start at around 5:00, so you have plenty of time to do what you wish since it is only 1:26," I was explained to. I went back to my room and actually started to unpack. You know the usual. Clothes in the closet, shoes and the foot of the bed, books in the bookcase, weapons under the bed or stashed in a secret spot, pictures on the wall or tables, guitars in the corner on their stands. You know. .....The usual. Finally I pulled out a picture of me and Ivan. Me and him smiling with our faces squished together so we could both fit in the picture.

~Flashback~

     "Hey Phaze! When is your birthday?" Ivan asked randomly.

     "I don't know, why?"

     "How the hell do you not remember your own birthday?" He asked avoiding my question.

     "I don't know. After living on the streets, the last concern you really have is when your fuckin' birthday is. You mainly focus on the whole finding food and shelter part."

     Ivan abruptly stood up and said, "Well that is going to change today! I am celebrating your birthday today whether you like it or not. You have five minutes to get ready to leave."

     "Where the hell are we going?"

     "That my good friend is a surprise!"

      So I got ready and didn't question him on anything. He shoved me into his car and drove me to the boardwalk. When we got out of the car, Ivan took me somewhere but I couldn't really see because of the crowds of people.

     "Here we are!" Ivan said proudly.

      "I can't see where we are. I'm too short." He got the bright idea then to pick up my little body and set me on his shoulders. Now I could see that we were at the boardwalk-fair-area. "Why are we here?" I asked, genuinely confused.

     "Because we are celebrating your birthday you dipshit! I thought we had a entire conversation on this earlier?"

     "OH YEEEAAAHHHH...."

     "So pick what you want to do first!" And that's just what I did. We went on rides, had treats, cheated at some games, just having a blast.

      Right as we were about to go, Ivan saw one of those photo booth things and dragged me inside. He changed the setting to only take two pictures so we could each have one personally. We had to smoosh our faces to together so we could both fit and we both put on real smiles from the fun day we had.

     Afterwards, we went to the beach and looked at the ocean in the moonlight and reflected lights of the boardwalk.

     Breaking the silence, I said, "Thanks for the birthday thing. You didn't really have to, but it was nice to just go out and goof around with you today."

     Ivan hooked an arm around my shoulder and brought me in for a side hug. "It was worth it. Anything to keep ya happy." I hummed in content. Ivan then said, "Can you do just one thing for me though?"

     "What's that?"

     "Stay my best friend forever and never forget that."

      "I won't if you won't!"

 ~End of Flachback~

     "I slowly grazed my fingers over the picture of us smiling and again begin to tear up. Then I said, "I guess you forgot then." I put the picture down on the bedside table and let out a breath I didn't even realize I was holding. I already miss him. Why the hell do I care so much? He betrayed me! I should feel nothing for him! He pissed me off to no ends! Yet I so desire to be by his side again, it feels like a little part of me has left.

     "Dinner Mr. Phaze," someone said at the door pulling me out of my thoughts. I follow them to the dinning room and sit across the table from Sound Barrier.

     "Well you look dreadful. Are you alright?" Sound Barrier first said as soon as he saw me. I did just stop crying and must have a red face with messy than usual hair.

     "Yes, I'm fine. Still trying to get over Ivan-"

     "You talk as if he were your lover." He said. The word 'lover' sounding like it was full of venom.

     "No-No, he was just my best friend is all!"

     "The key word is "was." You need to get over him. Besides, you have me now.~"
