I'm awoken to banging on my door, and my room feeling a lot colder than usual. For one it wasn't feeling like I was residing in Palm Springs, but more like I had been dumped in Greenland. I expected the knocking to just be my mother as usual, awaking me to get ready for school. But the beaming sun rays peeking through the shades was a clear sign it was not five thirty a.m.
"Alright, I'm up!" I called out, pushing the covers off of my torso as I stumbled off of my bed, padding the floors to the door, swinging it open to reveal none other than Safiyah MacDonald. Dressed in tan trousers, a cranberry floral button down shirt, and all white H&M tennis shoes, I could tell she was expecting me to leave the house with her.
"Schools canceled and you're really spending the Friday sleeping in?" She questioned, adding her extra whiny voice, as she adjusted the khaki knit infinity scarf on her neck. If anything she sounded like she way complaining about me not wanting to sleep in, but isn't that my decision? If I wanted to lay under my covers dreaming about Khaillou and chocolate cake all morning, why did she care.
"I don't feel like leaving the house Saf. There's suppose to be a big ass snow storm coming in soon." I then responded with a yawn as stretched my arms, sitting back down own my un made bed. "Plus I'm actually grounded ever since what happened the other day. My mom found out I snuck out and found me infront of the house with Khai." I added, rubbing my eyes. Safiyah seemed as if she where to scream once the last sentance spilled from out of my mouth.
"Khai, you mean Khai Alphonse?!" She exclaimed, jumping up and down from the doorway, making her way over to beside me. "Ohmigosh Tyler! That dude is one of the freggin hottest seniors at our school!" She smirked, giving me two thumbs up as her index fingers pointed towards me. An old hand gesture we created back when we where younger, nodding her head in approval.
"Well thanks for the ok gesture mom." I then said sarcastically, grabbing my toiletries to do my morning wash up and heading to the bathroom. "I'll be back in a few, I'll probably have a plan on how I want to spend the day when I come out." I advised Saf as she nodded, laying back on my bed.
Nearly an hour later, and I'm reunited with Safiyah, all though this time I find her in the kitchen along side Christian eating leftover pepperoni pizza from the night before. The two where chatting about Sam & Cat as they sipped their Capri-sun's in unison. By the looks of it, they where obviously enjoying eachothers company as usual, even laughing here and there.
"Hey kids!" I greeted the two, taking a seat on an empty stool, as I turned to look at them both. "What's new with you two?" I then commented, as Christian shook his head, taking a last bite of his pizza before slurping the remainder of his juice.
"We still heading out?" Saf asked, turning her attention towards me as she set her juice pouch down on the table. I nodded as her usual beaming smile returned to her face. "Where you wanna go?" She then questioned, hopping down from the stool to place both her and Christian's dishes in the sink.
"I really don't care. But wherever you decide to go, just keep I'm mind we have to take Chris with us." I advised, getting up from the stool to grab a bowl of cereal. The Honey Nut Cheerios were certainly calling my name as searched for a spoon.
"Can we go to the park!" Chris exclaimed, as an approving grin gleamed from Safiyah. I shrugged in response, for an supposed snow storm that was expected to sweep over the entire upstate New York area, these two seemed rather antsy to leave the house.
"Fine, you go get dressed, I need to finish my cereal." I assured to Chris as I took a seat back at the table across from Saf. I took no time spooning through my bowl, as I slurped the delicious honey bits, floating freely in the large bowl of milk.
"Alright, spill all the deets Tyler! I wanna hear everything about this guy." She smiled, as I rolled my eyes jokingly, dropping my spoon back into the bowl and swallowing some of the cereal in my mouth before speaking up.
"Well, I met him at your little weed party the other night. At first I wasn't digging the way he was acting, but then he walked me home and what not. So we're standing outside my house and my mom saw us standing together and took the opportunity to embarrass the shit out of me! I mean this lady was dressed in one of her worst bathrobes and had the curlers in her hair Saf!" I chuckled, just thinking back to the night that was not even two evenings ago.
"But anyways I apologized to him about how she was acting, and ended up learning some shit about him in photography class. Twenty minutes later and we are hot boxing his car together." I finished with a smile, now reminiscing on my first trip to the sanctuary with Khai.
"Please tell me you're joking?! Oh lord! Saf, Rico and Khai are literally like best friends ... You know what that means? Double dates and shit like that!" She cheered, as she reminded me of her boyfriend Rico, the one I seemed to never like ever since they began going out the year prior.
It was probably to the fact of how Rico and Safiyah never really had one of those perfect relationships that girls dreamed of. But of course, every relationship isn't going to have its ups and downs. But when every time they end of splitting due to Rico cheating on Saf with another girl, and she blames them getting back as love. That's when it got annoying. It was almost as if I was Safiyahs personal therapist.
"Yeah. That would be fun." I then responded, trying my best to force a smile onto my face for her sake. Luckily I had just finished my cereal and Christian finally came down the steps dressed head to toe in his winter apparel he received for Christmas.
"I'm ready!" He exclaimed, waddling into the kitchen with his dark blue duffle coat and red mittens while Saf and I chuckled, guiding him through the door. I then pulled on my charcoal peacoat, before slipping on my chocolate brown moccasins, ready for the chilly adventure ahead of me.
