"Mana ki hum yaar nahi..."
Adeel watched the monkeys dance around his back garden as the Parineeti Chopra song played along.
He remembered how much his wife loved feeding the monkeys and watch them roll around on the grass, joyfully laughing along.
It had been long since he heard the melodic sound of her laughter.
Adeel often wondered how she was.
He had been told by his aunt, her mother, that she finished her studies and became a teacher.
Studying was another ambition he deprived her from.
Adeel used to think that women shouldn't go to school, he also didn't want her around around other men.The phone began to ring, causing to the song to stop playing.
Adeel picked up the phone from the desk and looked at the screen.
Mariah.
Disgust overtook him. How dare that vile woman call him?
Although it was Adeel himself that destroyed his marriage, Mariah had played a major role in making her unhappy.Because of Mariah's greed, he had made his wife suffer.
He pressed the red button and left the phone on the desk, before walking out of the room.
He needed some time alone.
"Gulab Khan! Bibi!" Adeel called out.
Within moments, the housekeeper and cook ran to the hall, worried that they did something wrong.
"Yes Adeel saab?" Gulab Khan said, evidently gulping.
"I'm going out, get my car ready Gulab Khan. And Bibi, you can leave, I won't be eating home today." Their boss said to them.
Both the servants obediently nodded and did as they were told.
Gulab Khan ran outside to get the car and Bibi collected her stuff from the kitchen, so she could go home.
"Saab, your car is ready!" The housekeeper called from outside.
Adeel grabbed his coat and walked out, without bothering to take his phone, as he needed time away from everything and everyone.
He slipped inside his car and drove through the green gates Gulab Khan opened for him.
The roads of the area were very calm, with almost no cars in sight. Hardly anyone here drove a proper car, just trucks to deliver food from the cities.
The mountains were drizzled with light snow, seeing as this was the coldest part of Pakistan.
Adeel knew that his wife often liked to escape into the deep sides of the forest and admire the nature that could be viewed.
It was probably just to escape his monstrosity once in a while.Suddenly, the car rocked violently, causing Adeel shift from his seat.
As he gained his balance again, he noticed he driving away from the road and into a tree, so he quickly pressed his break.
Smoke broke out from the car, fogging his vision.
"Shit, the engine must have busted." Adeel muttered.
