Nobody knew for how long they were walking. Hours had passed since the sun had risen, and now, it seemed that he was returning home to rest; let the night take over until he could return to guide their way.
She could see the exhaustion on their faces, sweat dripping from their forehead. They, too, needed to rest before they were ready to keep going once again. And so it was decided that they would camp just for the night, ready to leave at first light.
The siblings were not tired. Both of them were used to the long hours of walking in the middle of the desert, searching for a new home. But them, no. They never knew the struggle of surviving in a planet where radiation had wiped out almost everything. They just fell from the sky, like shooting stars, and now all they wanted was to reach the City of Light.
Castor placed his weapons on the sand, being completely unarmed for the first time since his journey begun. The rest of the thirteen people did the same, sitting on the sand, trying to find a way to get comfortable and sleep.
Sofi noticed that they were all divided in smaller groups, probably being with the ones they trusted the most. She dis not blame them. She did the same, as Castor was her only company.
They remained in the dark. Only the moon and the stars around it shed some light. They had no wood to light a fire, but it was better that way. Darkness kept them out of trouble. It kept them safe from the thives that only wanted to harm and steal.
"Sleep. I'll be first watch." The girl said, and her brother nodded.
She was the only one awake. The only one who could protect fourteen people in case of an attack. She brought no weapons with her. She could use Castor's any time she needed them. She was one of Sangedakru's best warrior, before she decided that this was not what she trully wanted to be.
She did not wake him up. She stayed up all night, looking for any possible threats. But there was none. So she lay there, on the sand, with the stars and the moon keeping her company.
Until she fell asleep.
"Sofi? Wake up!" The young boy's voice echoed in her head.
She opened her eyes only to see her brother kneeling beside her, shaking lightly, to wake her up. The sun was rising on the horizon, signaling that it was time to leave. With the help of Castor, she removed the sand grains from her hair and clothes and picked up her stuff. She was ready to leave their camp.
They walked in silence. Nobody had much to say, not even the curious boy, who went by the name Johnathan Murphy. He quit guessing her secret hours before they camped, and she could not be more grateful about it.
