The word "alone" was an odd one. It had many different meanings.
The one he identified with was the pure meaning of the word-- to truly be alone. He lived without family or friends, relying on his music to keep him afloat in the ocean he'd drawn for himself with his actions.
She was alone in a crowd. Many loved her for her beauty, her singing, her joy, but none connected with her in the way she truly desired. Even among friends, she felt alone.
They yearned for a sense of belonging they had always seemed to have lacked.
