Masis sat in her father's room holding her knees to her chest, there was screaming and crying coming from outside the room. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she held back screams of horror as she heard a body fall against the door. Suddenly the door opened. She looked at her mother's tall figure, she seemed terrified. "You need to leave now, go to the lake. I have a friend waiting there for you, he'll make sure you're safe. Go now." She told her young daughter. "Aren't you coming with me?" Masis said innocently. "You'll be seen by the soldiers if I go with you." Her mother replied. She got down onto her knees and hugged her small daughter. "Goodbye love." She said with a smile as her eyes filled with tears. "Goodbye mother." Masis cried. The young girl ran out of the room leaving her mother. Masis sneaked into the nearby dining room where two soldiers were talking to each other. She duked under the table where to her horror was the body of one of the staff members that had been killed in the attack on her home. She heard fragments of their conversation as she crawled to the other end of the table nearest to the exit. "The king will pleased when we bring him back her." One said while the other replied with" We'll be the richest men in all of the kingdom." They laughed amongst each other. She kept moving trying to ignore what they said but she couldn't help but think who they were talking about. Once at the end of the table she decided to make a ran for it, she slowly crawled from under the table reached for the golden doorknob and quickly turned it and opened the door then slammed it behind her, and ran to the nearby window. She heard frantic yelling from the dining room they must have heard her. She opened the window and looked down, the drop didn't seem like much so she jumped. She screamed quietly as she landed on her leg, blood streamed from it and the pain intensified as she stood up. She groaned but slowly walked out of the garden she had fallen into. She entered the woods and fell to the ground. She cried and curled up on the forest floor. She felt a horrible pain in her leg, she was covered in blood. Masis looked at the path that she laid on, she knew if she walked it for a little longer that she would get to the lake but the pain covered any wish to surive. She closed her eyes and saw her mother, her piercing blue eyes twinkled. She whispered to her daughter," Mas, I love you, keep going. " No, mother, I can't." "Your father said the same thing when he started this war." Masis's eyes opened and she pushed herself off the ground. Her body screamed with pain as she stood up she used the nearby trees as support as she slowly made her way down the path. Every step was agonizing but she knew soon enough she'd be at the lake. She arrived at the lake, her face was tearstained and her leg was covered in blood. She felt dizzy and lightheaded as she started to lose consciousness. The last thing she saw was a tall man running towards her and yelling.
