Sometimes I look in the mirror
And often I wonder
If it's really me staring back
Turquoise eyes
Freckled nose
I squint in disbelief
Tilt my head to the side
Pinch my cheeks
And hold up my hand
I squint some more
And lean in closer
Fogging up the glass with my breath
I tell my nose to crinkle
It crinkles
The nose in the mirror crinkles
It is the same
But my thoughts...
Are they in the head I see in the reflection
I don't tell my eyes to blink
But they blink
And the eyes in the mirror blink
I'm essentially nose-to-nose
With myself
Leaving oily prints on the glass
How is that me?
How am I looking at the person thinking these things?
How am I looking at myself?
It doesn't feel like me.
It feels like a body I've come to know as me
But not really me
I blink
It blinks
I squint
It squints
And finally I turn away
I can't tell if it turned away
