*Grayson's Point of View*

I elbow her, and it's like a light flickers on. Something happens on the inside, I can see it in her eyes. She shuffles in her seat, then she smiles. Her smile is indescribable. It stands out above everything at this very moment, but yet it's subtle. It's bright and cheerful, but it shows past troubles. It's the perfect combination of flawless and flawed, and I catch myself staring for too long.

She laughs, pulling me out of my trance, and turns her attention to something written on the bar. Running her finger over the grooves in the wood, she breaks the loud silence.

"This is it, isn't it?"

"Hm?" I look at her confused. Nessa turns her gaze to me for a second before pointing at a number scribbled on the counter.

"Where you got my phone number?" I study her before I answer. There's a sadness in her eyes, a distant sadness, but it's still there.

"Uh, yeah that's it." I chuckle a little to try to lighten the mood.

Nessa keeps dragging her finger over her number and the messages written along with it, but mostly over the message I wrote.

"How's your sister?"

"She's... okay. I don't talk to her much lately."

"Why's that?"

"She's... distant, still pretty beaten up over it all."

"Nessa, I'm-"

"No, stop. It's okay, really."  That smile pops up again, and she lets out a small laugh.

"Was this here when you got my number?" She points a bony finger at the message I wrote in blue ink.

"Uh, no, it wasn't."

"That's weird, I could've sworn that was my ex's handwriting."

I contemplate telling her, I even think about confessing.

"No, I wrote that there."

She breaks out in laughter, real laughter.

"Your kidding, right?" Nessa turns to look at me, then her beautiful eyes grow big.

"Your not. I'm sorry." She laughs louder this time.

"You find this funny? This is serious." I try to give her my best straight face, but she continues to laugh, and my straight face doesn't last long.

"I'm harder to get then you think."

"You may think that, but I've already got you."

"The ego again."

"You know something?"

"Your attitude isn't as bad in person."

"I'm holding off."

She slips off her stool, and when she gets her feet under her, she finds herself just a few inches from my face. She looks up at me, and I swear my heart quits beating. By the look on her face, her's did too. I start to ease in closer, to get a closer look at the gold specks in her eyes, when she puts her hand up in between our faces.

"Not so fast, pretty boy." She plants a smile on my face and her's, then leaves without a goodbye.

It was at that exact moment that I remember to breathe. Quite the exit she made. Quite the mystery she is.
