Two Best Friends - Dolan Twins

The Distance

Amelia's POV
I drove all the rest of the day and into the night. And considering I went to the Dolan's household around 11 am, I ended up up in Cincinnati, Ohio. Although I had to stop for gas a couple of times, it was about 9 hours. I listened to a Spotify playlist called 'Boys Suck.'

Ring Ring Ring
It was Ethan...

"Hello...?" I cautiously answered the phone.

"Hey! I'm at your house, open the door." He said not knowing that I was hundreds of miles away.
"I can't right now, sorry."
"Oh, why not?"
"I'm not home right now," I said, "but did you get my note?"
"What note?"
"I slid it under your door today because you were sleeping. Did you not get it?"
"I have to go." He said quickly.

I drove around to find a baseball field. The Cincinnati Reds.

I walk up to the ticket booth, "Hi. Would you like to buy a ticket today or do you already have one. The booth for prepaid tickets are the next booth over." The tired lady says. I just stood there for a second, deciding if I actually wanted to see the baseball game. They were Grayson and I's thing. "Are you going to buy a ticket or not? There are people waiting."

"Oh. I'm sorry, yes I'll buy a ticket." I say slowly.
"How many?"
"Just one, please."

She hands me a ticket and smiles, "Here you go. Come again."
"Thank you."
" I CAN TAKE THE NEXT PERSON!" She yells.

I walk into through the lines of people and someone checks my ticket. "Have a good time." They say as I walk onto the field. I got the on field ticket, I'm so in love with baseball. I love the feeling of the bat in your hand, and the wind in your hair running base to base. I know, obviously I would play softball, but there's something I like better about baseball. Maybe it's the guys, and maybe it is, but oh well.

"M'am?" A voice says snapping me out of my thoughts, "Could you please sit down? The game is about the start."

I turned around and smiled when I saw who was standing before me. "Well, well, well, Eric Kaser. Is that really you?!" I engulf him in a large hug. "What are you doing here?"

"Well I should ask you the same thing. I thought your family moved to New Jersey? Are you all coming back to old Cincinnati, Ohio?"

I pretend to be mad and start pouting. "Oh I wish! I love it here, everything was so simpler."

"Why don't you stay for awhile? You could enroll in school here for a few months and stay with my family."

"Oh no, I can't possibly intrude! And I can't leave school right now, so much going on I just-"

"Amelia come on, just come stay with us! You're never intruding in our house, everybody loves you. Sarah misses you so much, she talks about you all the time."

I smile, I really wanted to, but I couldn't just run away from my problems. I've been running all this time. "I don't know..."

"Please! It'll be like old times, it can be like a sleepover ever night. Except this time we don't have to sneak out to see each other."

"I'll definitely keep it in mind. I have to talk to my mom and dad, but I won't have an answer until Sunday."

Eric smiled and said, "I love you so much! Let me go get some food, same as usual?" He knew me so well. I nod and turn to look at the game.

I notice that the game hasn't started yet, most likely 15 more minutes. They almost never start late.

I text my parents in a group message,
Me: Would you guys be ok if I stayed with the Kasers for a month?
Mom: Of course! Hannah just texted me about it, although I haven't talked to your father about it.
Dad: Hm... Is something wrong that you're not telling us? Is it Grayson?!! 😠😤🤜🏼🤕💪🏼💪🏼 He better watch it before I kick his ass!
Me: Haha, Dad, it's not Grayson. I really just thought it would be great to catch up with all my old friends and stay for awhile. Can I please? Nothing is going wrong with Grayson. I love you guys, talk about it? For me?!
Dad: If your mom says yes, I'll agree with her.
Me: Mom?!?!!!!!
Mom: Yes, like I said before, of course honey!
Me: THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!!!!!

I turned off my phone as I saw Eric in the corner of my eye. "Oh shit."

"What is it?" He asks shocked as if I had lost my phone.

"I just talked to my parents about staying here over the next month..." I say teasing him about what they said.

"And?! What did they sat Amelia?!" He was basically jumping up and down to hear my answer.

"They said I said I have too much school work and I have to stay here for a month."

"Wait. So you're staying here for the month?!"

I nod waiting for him to allow me to jump into his arms.

"Well crap Amelia. Don't tease me like that." He laughs and I jump into his arms. "I've really missed this. It's been too long."

The game ends and I follow Eric to my new home for the month.

We pull into the driveway. Sarah, Hannah and Larry Kaser come to greet us. They all come together and we have a big group hug. "Good to have you back, Baines." Larry tells me.

"Let's get you settled in the guest bedroom." Hannah says encouraging me to go inside.

I feel like I was forgetting something, and then I remembered that I forgot my phone in my car. "Just a minute, I forgot my phone in my car." She nods and tells me she'll meet in inside.

Eric stays with me while I get my phone. I power it back on to see all my texts that I missed during the game.

While it powers on, Eric talks to me. "Amelia I still love you, I know we aren't dating anymore, but I just want us to stay friends. It's been awhile since we broke up because you moved 4 years ago. We were only 13, but- Ugh. I have no clue where I'm going with this. Can we still be friends after all these years without it being weird?"

I smile, "You're not in love with me anymore?" Eric is the one and only boyfriend I haven't gotten over.

"Well yeah, you aren't still in love with me are you?" He asks, giving me a look.

"Well, I don't know. After all this time I just think and ask myself what would've happened if I didn't move and break up with you because of that. I mean of course I'm still in love with you. No one has ever been ass good as you. And yeah sure, we were only 13 when we broke up, but I've never gotten over you. Maybe you've gotten over me, but I really haven't gotten over-"

Eric just impulsively kissed me, probably to get me to stop talking so much, "Are you still in love with me?"

My heart raced and I was scared to tell him how I felt to do all I did was nod.

He smiled and kissed me again. "Let's head inside and get you all set up, I bet you can borrow some of Sarah's clothes to sleep in."

I nodded again, my brain too confused and dazed to talk. I walked into the beautiful house as my phone buzzed.

Grayson: Where are you? We need to talk. I love you, it wasn't want it looked like. I'd never do that to you. You're the only person I've ever loved this much. Come over and we can talk :) <3
