The Talk

Ethan's POV
After class I sped up to catch Amelia, but she walked even faster. "Amelia! Wait up!" I yelled.

I took a shortcut to meet up with her. "AMELIA PENELOPE BAINES!!" She looked back for a brief moment and in the moment I could see her whole face. She was crying. Fucking Grayson. I ran and ran to catch up to her.

"Shit Ethan!" I looked up, grabbed her stuff off the ground and pulled her into the janitors closet. She wiped her eyes and looked at me straight in the eyes.

"Did Grayson actually tell you?" I asked "I told him not to, but he just insisted that he tell you and Abby and the same time. You know I..." She looked confused.
"Tell me what?"
"I'm in no place to tell you. He'd be pissed. You're already crying, Amelia"

20 Minutes Ago - Amelia's POV
*Ring Ring Ring*
"Hello?"
"Is this Amelia Baines?"
"Yes this is she. May I ask who is asking?"
"Hi this is Sarah Cardens from UCLA, we'd like to talk to you about your application to here. Is there anytime that we could meet?"
"Like in LA?"
"Haha, yes."
"Oh wow..."
"This is Amelia Baines, right?"
"Yes."
"And you did apply to UCLA?"
"Yes. I'm sorry, I just never thought I would get in, I mean your acceptance rate is only 18%. It's so big of an achievement for me. You know?"
"Ms. Baines?"
"Yes?"
"Are you accepting the offer to come meet us? The meeting will be held in 2 weeks, if you can't make it please tell me now or in the next few days. The spots fill up fast and we can't afford for you to keep us waiting."
"Ok thank you so much! I'll get back to you later today."

I hung up the phone and ran to the bathroom. I locked the door and started crying, not because I was sad, because I couldn't believe what just happened to me. I was a junior getting a college offer, I wasn't going to even have to think about college for the next year and a half.

Present Time - Ethan's POV
"Oh Ethan, I'm not crying because I just got terrible news." She said, laughing a little.
"Then why?" I asked.
"I got accepted to UCLA. I moving to California after senior year." She smiled at me.

I was so heartbroken, I know she and I are just friends, but I was really falling in love with her. I couldn't imagine a life where she's 3,000 miles away. And yeah, I know, it's almost a year away, but I can't ask her to stay for me when my brother clearly likes her.

Ring Ring Ring

"Amelia, I need to tell you something really important."
"Shit! I gotta go, but I'll talk with you at lunch about this later ok?"

She opened the door quickly and left me standing all alone in the closet. She ran to her next class, which is also Grayson's. Yippee for me.

2 Hours Later - Lunch
I looked for Amelia because she wasn't sitting at our usual table with Abby and all the guys.

I checked my phone to see if she texted me anything on what table she was sitting at.

Amelia: Hey! Sorry I forgot I had a doctors app. Don't think I'm coming back to school... :) Come to my house after school and we can talk about this morning in the janitor's closet.
Me: No problem, but I'm gonna miss homeroom with you! :( See you at 3:30.

Well. I need to break up with Abby, but I mean it's not like we were a great couple. I didn't even really like her in the beginning, neither did she, and I know that's weird that we started dating, but that's just the way things worked out.

Me: Meet me in the car in 10 minutes. We're going to Amelia's.
Abby: Are we finally doing this?
Me: Only if you're ready.
Abby: I'm ready if you are :)
Me: Ok then. Let's do this.

10 Minutes Later
"So what do we say?" Abby asked.
"The whole truth, and who we really want to be with." I told her nervously.
"Are you sure?"
"Aren't you?"
"I don't know, I mean I'm so tired of hiding my feelings, but I'm also tired of fake dating."
"Are you saying you don't wanna be my girlfriend anymore?!" I joked.
"Ethan... I'm so sorry. I just think our relationship is so fake."

We laughed about our fake dating the entire way to Amelia's house, I even had to pull over we were laughing so much about how our "first kiss" was magically, then the car was dead silent when we reached her driveway.

Abby knocked on the door while I locked up my car. "Are you sure you're 100% ready to end this thing?"
"As ready as I'll ever be, I guess."

Amelia opens the door and smiles.
"Hey guys! What's up!" She said excitedly.

I loved that about her. She lifted up her hand so we could do our fancy-secret handshake.

"You guys are weirdos." Abby says.
"You're just made we don't have one." I smirk at Abby.
"You're such an ass, you know that?"
"Guys!!" Amelia yells getting our attention.
"Yes?" Abby and I say at the same time.
"Why'd you skip school to come here?" She asks. "Or was today one of the half days?"
"You wanna go first E or do you want me to?" Abby asks me looking concerned for me.
"Amelia, I'm in love with you." I say.
"Amelia, I'm in love with Grayson." Abby says.
