It's been almost two weeks since Charles gave us the news about the flash drive. We still haven't figured out what we want to do about the whole mess. I think that we should send a spy to Syria. I have been thinking long and hard about it and I just might volunteer myself to go and get information. I still haven't talked to Tom about it either.
I heard the door open and go to greet Tom. Maybe I should just tell him right now. The sooner I tell him, the sooner we can launch the plan.
"Hey, L. Can I talk to you for a second?" I approach him with a serious look.
"Yeah?" he half asks, half answers.
"I've thought long and hard about the flash drive information and I believe that we should send a spy to Syria. Maybe even two."
"Funny you should say that. I was thinking the same thing," he responds with a chuckle.
"I want to volunteer myself for it. I want to go to Syria," I say straight out. Tom just sits there with his mouth wide open. He doesn't look like he's going to say anything. We sit there for a few minutes in total silence and he doesn't change his expression. "Tom? You still with me?" I ask.
"No."
"What?"
"You are not going to Syria. You are not going to put yourself into anymore danger." He says sternly. I knew he was going to say this. I just want to actually be apart of this mission. I don't want to be making plans and not be apart of them. It just isn't fair.
"You can't keep me out of every single mission, Tom. It's no fair. I don't want to sit around and do nothing while everyone is risking their lives to prevent World War Three. I will volunteer myself. I just thought I should tell you first," I say, then storm out of the house.
I call Charles and tell him to meet me at the Starbucks next to the mall. When we meet up, I explain everything to him.
"I want to volunteer myself," I say. He laughs.
"You're kidding right?"
"Does it look like I'm kidding? Do you really think I would waste your time with some ridiculous joke? I don't think so. Can I go or not?"
"I mean, we would have to talk to the rest of the group and see what they think, but I don't see why not," he responded seriously this time. He explained that all I would have to do is wait until the next meeting which will be in four days. I don't go to the meetings, but I get feedback from Charles. I thank him, pay, and leave.
When I get home, I find Tom laying on the couch staring at the ceiling. Great! Now he's upset. Just what I needed. I walk over to him and kneel on the floor.
"Babe, please don't be mad. I just want to do more because it's my parents who made this mess," I say.
"It's not that I'm mad. I'm scared. I really don't want to lose you. I really don't. You mean the world to me and I don't want you going and risking your life because your parents screwed up."
"You know you would do the same if you were in my position. You know this," I said, trying to reason with him.
"Why don't we talk about this tomorrow? I will think about it later. Let's just watch some more of The Walking Dead." I nodded and turned the TV on. I went to the kitchen to pop some popcorn. Someone knocked at the door so I went to answer it. I open the door to reveal Selena holding flowers. I smiled and thanked her and welcomed her in.
"Oh, sorry dear. I can't stay. I just came to bring you a home warming gift. I'll stop by tomorrow. Have a good night!" She turned around and left. That was weird. I place the flowers in a vase, pour the popped popcorn in a bowl, and head to the living room where Tom is laying. I cuddle up with him and we watch The Walking Dead until we both fell asleep.
