"My mum wasn't a normal witch, was she," Noelle stated, the letter she had only dreamed of receiving gripped tightly in her hand. "And neither am I."

Dumbledore only smiled, his blue eyes twinkling with secrets.

"Viatorem Atramento. Ink Travellers. A select few of gifted individuals who have the ability to delve into the history of any world — of any book," began Dumbledore, reciting what Noelle knew from the wisps of smoke which still danced around the room. "Am I correct in saying that you were unaware of how this ability has passed on to you?"

She nodded, relaying the message the wisps had divulged in her mind. "My mum was a Viator, wasn't she? And because of that, so am I." Noelle swallowed thickly, murmuring, "A guardian."

"Your mother was a peculiar women with abilities far beyond my understanding," explained Dumbledore, beginning to pace around the office with both hands clasped behind his back. "She was a saviour — a protector of the world she came from. She had a task to protect one of the most important beings that magic had created, a being she herself knew nothing of until it was brought into the world: you."

"Why?" Noelle interrupted, jumping up from her seat to face him. "Why am I so important?" The wisps of smoke unfurled and coiled around her protectively, as if to soothe their wielder.

"I think you know the answer to that, Miss Black," said Dumbledore, glancing over his half-moon spectacles with a pointed look.

Noelle chewed her lip to stop herself from frowning; she did know, but it was hard to believe.

The smoke had come to life, telling Noelle of the stories passed on to each generation of Viators. Words held magic within them: the ink pertaining power that could only be wielded by Ink Travellers, they can create a portal into the world they described. But this ability wasn't something to be looked upon lightly; Viators are there to protect. To maintain. To guard. There are forces — dark forces like the Erinyes who wish to drain Viators of their power and wreak havoc in these worlds. By doing so, they steal the magic in the words — the changes they create can't alter the printed ink published in all the dimensions, but because these books are no longer bound to the truth, entire worlds are erased as the darker entities and villains in the stories are left to their own devices. Life will cease to exist. These creatures thrived off of destruction, darkness and nothingness. Only Viators had the power to defeat them, and the power to protect those in the books.

The reason why Noelle was alive?

"I have the power to protect Harry Potter."
