"So, Mrs. Parkerson, you wanted to talk to me concerning your daughters?" The psychiatrist asked. Mrs. Parkerson merely nodded in response. The psychiatrist glanced at the door for a few moments, expecting them to come into the room. But they didn't. "Where are they? Normally to do a psychiatric evaluation they need to be present."
"That's what I needed to talk to an you about. They haven't left the house in four years," Mrs. Parkerson said.
"I'm going to need a bit more information, Mrs. Parkerson."
"Alright, I'll tell you everything." Mrs. Parkerson closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Then she opened them and began. She explained the situation to him. It didn't take a long time.
"Wow, I have never heard anything like that in my whole career as a psychiatrist," The psychiatrist took a look at his notes.
"Let me guess," Mrs. Parkerson began dryly. "You don't believe me?"
"No, I believe you, it's just that it's very unusual. But I will need to meet the girls before I can make an accurate analysis," The psychiatrist replied. In other words, he needed to see it to believe it.
"I've explained to you that I can't do that!" Mrs. Parkerson was getting very upset.
"Look, I'll say this to you very clearly," The psychiatrist began. "If you don't bring the girls to me, I can't help you."
"But -" Mrs. Parkerson resisted the the urge to start crying. "How?"
"I don't know, but I can't help you without the girls," The psychiatrist replied.
With a disdainful sniff, Mrs. Parkerson left the room feeling utterly hopeless. She decided that the only way to help her girls would be to force them to go outside. She'd never tried to do that before, but now she no longer had a choice if the girls ever were to become somewhat normal.
