Colton cleared the table while Rhea washed the dishes. Their mom was tidying up the rest of the house.
"You know, how come we didn't have to do all of this yesterday," Rhea whispers as Colton brings over a stray bowl.
"Maybe Mom didn't think they'd be coming again," Colton whispers back.
"Probably."
Their mom walks into the kitchen/dining room.
"Here, I'll finish the dishes, go tidy up your rooms," Ms. Mayes orders. Rhea and Colton go upstairs. They had already cleaned their rooms last night, so they didn't need to clean them again.
"I think mom wants to be friends with Mrs. Parkerson," Rhea says randomly, stopping at the doorway to her bedroom.
Colton stops at his doorway and looks at his sister. "I'd think so. Mom doesn't really have a lot of friends."
"I don't think she has any, she's at work for half the day and then she's with us for the rest of it," Rhea elaborates.
"Mom probably has a few friends at her job," Colton says.
"Maybe, but if she does, she's must not be that close to them," Rhea replies.
"Yeah," Colton agrees.
Downstairs, a doorbell sounds. Colton and Rhea peek over the partition between the stairs and the living room to see the front door. Two identical girls stand behind Mrs. Parkerson.
"Colton, which one is which?" Rhea whispered. Colton eyed both of them carefully and shrugged. He honestly couldn't tell them apart. Sure, they looked like twins before, but now it was impossible to know which was which. They were even wearing the same outfit.
"I think the one on the right is Emma," Rhea whispered.
"How can you tell?" He wondered.
"Because her hair looks like it's been straightened," Rhea answered. Colton sends his sister a weird look, but says nothing.
"Emma and Leeanna, if you want, you can go upstairs, Rhea and Colton are up there doing who-knows-what," Ms. Mayes says with a little chuckle.
Colton and Rhea run into Colton's room just as Emma and Leeanna climb up the stairs.
"Can I feel your hair?" Rhea asks the twin she presumed was Emma. The twin scrunched her nose in confusion and shrugged.
Rhea grabbed a strand of her hair. Just as she thought, it was warm and had the texture of straightened hair.
"Emma, your hair is really soft," She comments.
"Thanks, I use watermelon scented shampoo and strawberry scented conditioner - hey! How'd you know?" Emma responds. Rhea laughs.
"Your hair looked like it's been flat-ironed," Rhea explained at the same time Colton says, "Lucky guess." Leeanna and Emma found this hilarious for some reason and started laughing really hard.
"Well I guess switcheroos can't work all the time," Emma commented once she calmed down.
"Apparently not," Colton smirks and laughs.
We'll try again next time, Leeanna thinks to Emma. Emma nods in response. The kids take seats, Rhea and Colton in front of Colton's bed and Leeanna and Emma in front of the dresser.
"So..." Emma tries to break the awkwardness.
"How's life been going for you guys?" Rhea helps.
"It's okay I guess. Lots'a new stuff, and whatnot," Emma replies, with a shrug.
We're getting by. Nothing too substantial happened, well since Monday, Leeanna projects to everyone.
