A Chance

chapter 9

Jared was pretty calm after I went off on him. He came home on time,he didn't so much as look at the alcohol for what seemed like years but in reality had only been a month.
"Mommy, when's daddy coming home?"Neko and me sat alone at the dinner table that night waiting for Jared.
"I don't know honey dads probably at his office." I got up to grab my cell when I heard the front door open.
"Jared?" I ran to the door.
"Phoebe my love , I'm home." I knew he was wasted, I also knew this whole goodie two shoe act was well just an act. Jared walked over to me and tripped I caught him.
"Oh phoebe how I've missed you. "
"Neko sweety can you go in the other room? Mom and dad need to talk for a bit."
"Why do i have to go." Neko sat on the steps pouting.
"Neko I'm not gonna ask again NOW." Neko went running up the stairs. I hated talking to him like that but he didn't need to see his father like this.
"Jared you promised." I let go of Jared and let him fall. I knew I couldn't trust him.
"Phoebe." He tried to speak.
"Sleep on the couch, we'll talk more tomorrow when your sober." And with that I walked off I didn't need this. Jared was always a good husband up until a year ago. He had lost his brother Marcel in a house fire. Jared had tried everything to save him after they pull Marcel out of the fire, but his burns were to extensive and they couldn't revive his heart. He witnessed every minute of that pain. So when he drank I tried not to say anything.

"Jared it's time to get up."
"Charlie?" Jared asked hastily.
"Who's Charlie? This is phoebe jar." I looked at him with a suspicious look on my face. He sat up suddenly with a panicked expression.
"Its a... a business associate."
"Jared ill ask you once that's all, are you sure about that answer?"
" Dammit phoebe I know who my associates are I don't need to be told by my wife who my business partners are, and not that it's any of your business but I worked with her at head quarters." Jared snapped at me, just like that.
"I will not be spoken to like that. Do you here me Jared. It was a simple question and all I was looking for was a simple answer so if you don't mind I don't know dialing it back a little that's be great hun." I took a step back from him knowing he'd never hit me but his rage was building.
"Maybe you didn't have to wake me for an argument and maybe you should know when to keep you god damn mouth shut woman." And with that Jared turned to walk off. He was never this mad for me asking a question. I knew he was hiding something. Maybe he was drinking so he'd have an excuse to hide someone or something.
