It was just an average morning for Levi. He woke up early to take a nice walk along the beach before stopping at a local tea shop for a nice hot cup of tea and a snack for breakfast.

He never slept much, so he was always able to get to the beach right when the sun began to rise and the beach was deserted, which is how he liked it. He didn't really care for human interaction unless he had to. Some people would describe his life as lonely, but he enjoyed it quite a bit. He also didn't have a dog or a cat because he found them dirty and troublesome to clean after.

He continued to walk along the shore and around a large boulder when he heard a soft noise among the sound of crashing waves.

"Help..." a soft voice cried out. Levi looked everywhere for the person in need, but he saw no one. "Help..." the voice repeated. The voice was soft and a bit higher pitched—like a child.

"Where are you?" Levi asked the voice. The voice did not reply back. Maybe the person was too weak to respond. "Hey, where are y—Ah!" Levi's foot had caught on something. He looked and saw it was a piece of net, probably from one of the fishing boats.

Levi went to pick up the net to throw it away when something caught his eye. It looked like a tiny blue fish had been caught in the net before the net got stuck on a rock. "Help..." the same voice cried again, but this time, Levi got a clue on where it came from.

"Help?" He curiously picked up the creature by the tail as the torso was tangled up in the net. With some difficulty, Levi tried to carefully take off the net without hurting the creature since it was still alive.

After he got the net off, he put the small fish onto his open palm to look at it closer. What surprised him was that it wasn't a fish at all, but a tiny mermaid. There had been stories about them living in the ocean, but not many have been seen. There were some people who had them as companions (similar to that of a dog or a cat), but those were rare.

The mermaid clung to his fingers for safety as it moaned in pain from the net and being out of the water for too long. Levi quickly cuffed his hands so that the mermaid wouldn't fall off his palm and ran back home to help the mermaid.

When he got to his seaside condo, he quickly pulled out a bowl and filled it with water before putting the mermaid in it. The tiny mermaid laid at the bottom of the bowl completely still, which got Levi a bit worried that it had died on the way home. Luckily his worries went away when he saw the tail twitch and swish slowly back and forth.

He sat there staring at the creature for who knows how long, making sure it was alright. Eventually, he thought it would be productive to look up things mermaids ate and the amount of space they needed to be comfortable.

As he scrolled through the internet, he never thought his day would end up like this when he first woke up that morning. In the middle of his researching, he heard a splashing noise behind him. He turned and saw the small mermaid looking at him curiously.

"Hello," the mermaid greeted softly from the edge of the bowl. Levi turned his chair around to get a better look at the mermaid, but made no movement to move any closer so that he wouldn't scare the tiny thing.

"Hi," Levi greeted back. "Your kind can speak our language?"

The mermaid shook his head. "Not all of us. I know your language because I like to be near the surface and watch you guys. That's sort of how I got caught in the net." The mermaid rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment, a slight blush appearing on his face.

Cute.

Was the word Levi would use to describe the tiny creature as he watched him be embarrassed. Levi had never called anything cute before, but he felt that was the appropriate word to describe the little guy. "My name is Levi and this is my home. What should I call you? Do you already have a name or do I need to give you one?"

The mermaid swished his tail back and forth. "I'm Eren! It's great to meet you, Levi!" Eren said. Levi let a small smile show. The tiny mermaid was too cute for his own good.

As time passed, the two of them got used to the other's presence and began to have a mutual friendship between them. During one of their early conversations, he learned that Eren was all by himself, this led Levi to decide to offer him a home at his condo, which Eren quickly agreed to with a cute swish of his tail.

The next day, Levi got a large fish tank and a moderately sized fish bowl for the mermaid. The tank was so that Eren had enough room to swim around and have cool decorations for him to swim through, while the smaller bowl was set next to Levi's workstation so that Eren could be closer to him if he wanted to. Eren loved watching Levi work so he spent a lot of his time in the bowl. Sometimes Levi would even put on a video on his desktop for the two of them to watch together.

It was surprising to Eren how he had started with so little but had ended up with so much in the end. He had a nice owner who gave him anything he needed and was super gentle with him and loved to clean.

Eren loved his owner. Eren loved Levi—even before Levi found him on the beach.
