For the next three months, things have gone quite well between Normani and Dinah. They have officially been a thing since September 21st, and it was now December. The two girls have been busy preparing for Christmas. The Hansens had planned to invite the Hamiltons to their annual Christmas Eve-Eve dinner. Dinah's dad normally worked on Christmas Eve and Day, so the family always ate and exchanged gifts on the 23rd.

Flashback

Coming out to her parents definitely wasn't easy for Dinah, but it was something that had to be done. When she told her parents about her girlfriend, they were more than accepting towards the new couple. They had requested to meet her the same day. Normani had came over and the Hansens took her to the beach, where the four of them ate a picnic lunch and got to know each other. It was too cold to swim, but that didn't stop Dinah and Normani from having a splash fight.
Normani's parents were accepting as well. Dinah met them when she came to Normani's for a sleepover. Mr. Hamilton had requested to keep the bedroom door unlocked.
"Even though you're a girl, I still have to watch out for my little girl," he had explained, ruffling his daughters hair while he laughed. Dinah accepted that. She was glad Normani's parents cared about her. The two girls and sat in the unlocked room listening to Beyoncé and talking about life.
"Do you ever think about the future, D?" Normani has asked.
"I do, sometimes," Dinah said, "It can be nerve racking after a while of thinking, so I usually stop myself."
"Do you see...you know, us having a future together?" The other girl questioned.
"Mani, there is nothing I would rather have and no one I would rather be with than you. You have made me feel happy. You gave my life purpose. The only reason I wake up in the morning to go to the hell we call school is to see you. You are the reason I keep going. My inspiration to keep doing what I love."
Dinah stopped when she realized she was choking up, "Dang it Manibear, thanks for making me feel things. I never cry in front of people."
Normani smiled and said, "Dinah I couldn't imagine life without you. These past months have been the best in my life, and I can't wait for what's waiting around the corner,"
The two girls had hugged after that. They didn't want to get too intimate, as the girls parents were home.
Conversation carried on, deep and casual topics coming to the girls minds, both feeling free to say those thoughts comfortably. Dinah had gotten really into her current topic, Harry Potter, when she realized she was talking to herself. Normani had fell asleep, right next to her on the bed.
Dinah smiled and looked at the other girl's sleeping figure. She was so beautiful. Dinah enjoyed watching her chest rise and fall, her mouth slightly open, with soft snores escaping her lips.
She's mine, Dinah smiled to herself, No one will take this away from me.
The next morning, Dinah woke up to a pillow smacking her in the face.
"Wake up, sleepyhead!" Normani yelled playfully.
"Urrrgghhhh," Dinah stretched, feeling herself fall back into unconsciousness.
"Dinah!" Normani hit her with a pillow again, "You're asleep again!"
"No I'm not," she protested.
  "You were snoring," Normani stated.
  "Point taken."
After the two girls woke up and got ready, they went back to their park, for some more fun. They kissed and kissed some more. Dinah had never felt happier to be alive.
"What did I ever to do deserve to even know you?" Dinah breathed in between kisses.
"You were yourself," Normani smiled, "I wouldn't want you if you were anyone else."

Present

Funny how things change so quickly.
It all started on a windy afternoon in December. Dinah had been in a rush to get home. She had a final the next day for math, but she had to get Normani her Christmas gift. That was more important.
"Where are you going in such a hurry?" Ally called to Dinah, seeing her running out of the school and into the parking lot.
"I-have-to-get-to target!" Dinah exclaimed, out of breath from her mad dash to the car.
"Well ok. Hey! Be careful out there. They're calling for freezing rain. In this wind, that'll make for some unsafe roads." Ally's tone was serious.
"You don't have to worry about me all the time, Ally." Dinah stated, feeling guilty afterwards. She hadn't meant to brush her off, she didn't want Ally to worry about her.
"Okay, just promise me you'll keep your eyes on the road,"
"I promise, mother," Dinah rolled her eyes and got in the car. Oh boy, she thought, it is bad out here.
As she pulled out of the parking lot, she remembered that Target was closing early that night. I have to get Normani's gift.
It had started to snow, causing the windows of the car to be difficult to see out of. Dinah had her windshield wipers on full blast, until an ugly tearing sound occurred, and the stick went flying off the front view window.
"Shit," Dinah cursed out loud. It was impossible to see in front of her.
It all happened so quickly. Bright lights flashed directly in front of Dinah's vehicle, it was coming for her head on. Swearing, Dinah insanely turned her steering wheel as far left as it could go, attempting to swerve away from the other vehicle. There was ice forming on the road. This caused the girls car to swerve mercilessly, smacking the other car head on. Dinah's body lurched foreward, her head hitting the wheel with an ugly, organic crack.
