A/N: Hey, you guys. Well, I've realized this story has been gaining quite some attention lately. So I've decided to focus a little more on this story as well. If it continues, I'll try to update sooner. Hope you guys enjoy. Please leave feedback, I love hearing from you guys!
The school bell rung, signifying the end of the day. Sighing a breath of relief, I stacked all of my items on top in a neat pile before putting them away nicely in my tote. I hoisted myself out of the desk quick enough to be one of the first few to leave the class.
I smiled at a few of my friends on the way to the side entrance, passing my locker. I didn’t want to stop incase Jake was loitering by Jack’s locker again. I just wanted to leave in peace. Of course, knowing me, that could NEVER happen.
I burst through the doors, expecting to receive rays of sunlight seeping into my eyelids as I try to squint. However, I was met with gray clouds with the likely chance of rain. I lifted up my hand to use as a visor. With my hand to my forehead, I gazed around trying to find Tabby in her camry. When she was nowhere to be seen, I sat down on the red bench near the doors and waited.
People passed by, not giving me the time of day. I tried to keep my head down, as I didn’t want much attention to begin with. I reached down for my bag to grab the current novel I had been reading. It was one of romance, passion, and true gentlemen, qualities one rarely finds in today’s society.
A slight hint of thunder was heard. I tried to ignore it. Tabby would be here soon, I reassured myself. Clearing my head, I read.
The rush of people coming out of the building thinned out, and Tabby still hadn’t arrived. I tried not to go in a panic, until I saw the buses begin to leave out of my peripheral vision. If Tabby didn’t show up soon, I’d be forced to walk home in the rain.
“Hey there.”
The voice made me flinch and yelp as I looked up to find Jake staring down at me, missing his signature smirk. I pretended not to acknowledge him after my rather embarrassing yelp as I brought my attention back to my book.
Of course, Jake didn’t get the hint. He sat down beside me close enough to feel his breathing on my shoulder.
“What are you reading there?” he asked me. I pretended not to hear, trying to get into my book. Jake slightly lifted my book up to look at the cover and smiled.
“It’s a good one,” he commented. I looked at him with pure shock.
“You read Jamie Allison’s novels?” I asked in disbelief. Jake laughed in a rather sentimental way, appreciating my acknowledgement of him. He shrugged.
“Of course. How else do you think I got my charm?” he said, laughing again as my face dropped. I realized then he was joking. Heck, I shouldn’t even believe the idea that he knew how to read. Annoyed, I brought my face down back to my book.
“I’m more of a James Patterson’s kind of guy, honestly. Great stories, he’s got. I mean, with Alex Cross and Maximum Ride... I’m surprised he’s not getting the attention he deserves,” he explained. There goes my theory of him being illiterate... But I was slightly impressed that he read.
“Really?” I asked, trying to seem unfazed, “What does he write?”
Jake threw his head, looking at the clouds, and smiled.
“Almost anything. He can write mysteries... action... adventure! He’s awesome at writing adventures. Heck, there’s even some little romance in there somewhere. Real romance. Not that,” he said, pointing at my book, “He’s really good at it. Gets into the real stuff, how complicated it can get. And it’s true. Which is why I like it.”
