Deja vu

She clearly was suffering from ill health, which is why I couldn't recognize her. Even earlier, she was very thin, but now she had been reduced to a mere skeleton. It didn't seem like she had any flesh left on her body. Who knew destiny could take such a sudden and unexpected turn? That's when she looked at me, and caught me staring at her wide-eyed.

She blinked at me with absolutely no sign of recognition in her eyes. As she was staring at me, she stumbled upon something and fell; and could not stand quickly. Then I heard a loud bang of pistol firing, and blood appeared on her back. Everyone kept on moving, glancing occasionally at my mother's body suffering in pain.
I was rooted to the spot where I was standing, stunned. As the march turned round a corner and disappeared, she stopped moving. That brought me back to my senses. I ran straight to her body and turned it to face up.

Her blank eyes, devoid of life and emotions, stared at the sky above. They had glazed over and turned glassy. I put her head onto my lap, and closed her eyes. I noticed I was sobbing, but didn't remember when I had started crying.

I don't remember for how long, but I do know, that I had stayed there, knelt beside her body, with her head on my lap, sobbing.

Some people snatched the body from me and threw it in a garbage truck standing nearby. I then realised, there were people around me and were saying things. I couldn't make out the words though. The truck went away leaving a trail of smoke behind. I kept staring at the speeding truck growing smaller and smaller with increasing distance, with a strong sense of deja vu and tears rolling down my cheeks, because I knew that this time the distance will only increase.

The End.
