Scott and I ran out the principles office and down the hallways towards the nearest door. When we got out, the cop car was just pulling away, and Isaac looked back and saw us standing at the top of the steps. We turned to go back to lessons when another car pulled up. I spun back around and realised Derek was in the drivers seat.

"Get in." He said, peering at us over the top of his sunglasses.

"Are you serious? You did that. That's your fault." Scott said, and I could feel him getting angrier. I started to reach my hand out towards him, but hesitated and bought it back down to my side.

Derek sighed and looked down. "I know that. Now get in the car and help me."

"Maybe we should, Scott. We have to help Isaac before he hurts himself or anyone else." I said mildly.

"No, I've got a better idea. I'm gonna call a lawyer. Because a lawyer might actually have a chance at getting him out before the moon goes up."

"Not when they do a real search of the house." Derek said.

"What do you mean?" I cut in.

"Whatever Jackson said to the cops, what's in the house is worse. A lot worse."

Derek popped the passenger door open, and I shrugged. "Shotgun." I slid into the car and shut the door. "You coming, McCall?"

He deliberated for a second before huffing and getting in the backseat.

---

"If Isaac didn't kill his father, who did?" I asked Derek as Scott walked ahead of us with a flashlight in his hand.

"I don't know yet." He replied and I could tell that not knowing was irritating him.

"Then how do you know he's telling the truth?"

"Because I trust my senses. And it's a combination of them, not just your sense of smell."

Scott sighed. "You saw the lacrosse thing today."

"Yeah."

"Did it look that bad?"

"Yeah." Derek and I both said, and I giggled at the scolded look on Scott's face.

---

"You wanna learn? Let's start now." Derek said to Scott as we all stood at the top of the stairs to the basement.

"What's down here?" Scott asked as he took a few steps into the room. I made to follow, but Derek stopped me, knowing I would be able to use my senses to grasp what happened already.

"Motive."

"And what am I looking for?" He asked, and this time I answered.

"Follow your senses." I called down into the basement.

Scott looked around, and I saw him jump a little as he looked at a creepy porcelain doll sitting on a chair.

"What happened down here?" Scott asked.

"The kind of thing that makes an impression." Derek said ominously.
I walked down the steps myself, my feet not making a noise on the wood. I came up behind Scott as he bent down to look at scratch marks on the floor and touched his shoulder. He jumped up, and spun around in alarm.

"Not funny." He muttered as I laughed, even though he was smiling.

He stopped when he saw an overturned refrigerator on the floor. We shared a look, and I shrugged.

This time we both jumped as Derek appeared out of nowhere next to us. "Open it."

Scott slid the padlock from the handle and slowly pulled the lid back.

The inside was full of scratch marks.

"These... aren't from claws." I said quietly, reaching forward to run my fingers down some of them. "Jesus, they're just human nails."

"This is why he said yes to you." Scott said to Derek.

"Everyone wants power."

"If we help you, you have to stop, Derek. You can't just go around turning people into werewolves!" I said, pointing accusingly at him.

"I can if they're willing." He said, and I rolled my eyes. Stubborn ass.

"Did you tell Isaac about the Argents? About being hunted?" Scott asked, and Derek nodded.

"Yes, and he still asked."

"Then he's an idiot." I said with a huff.

"And he's the idiot dating Argent's daughter." Derek said, looking at Scott. "Yeah. I know your little secret. And if I know, how long do you think it's gonna take for them to find out? You saw what happens to an omega. With me, you'll learn how to use all of your senses. With me, you learn control. Even on a full moon."

"If I'm with you, I lose her." Scott said, and I felt sad for them both. Having to hide? I know how that felt.

"You're gonna lose her anyway. You know that."

"We're not part of your pack. But we want to help him, he's our responsibility too." I said, stepping in before they were at each others throats again.

"Why? Because he's one of us?" Derek frowned.

"Because he's innocent." I said softly.
