Cpt 3

Everyone was silent, the air was a storm of different emotions.
I looked over the crowd to see who was here, and try and guess who might die.
I saw Hurly Reed, he always looked so happy, he was solemn, but
He didn't really need to be scared, no one in his family line has been powerless.
He was also not bad looking so he had that going for him.

I spotted Clare Jonz, she looked absolutely petrified.
She had a black eye and her face stained with tears.
Her family, like mine has a long history
Of being powerless.
She was holding hands with her best friend Emmy, who had a matching
blue-black eye.
I suspect they got into something with their captain.

My eyes finally landed on Winnie.
Winnie Aster we used to be good friends,
But after her older brother died a few years ago in the forest, she rarely was in the town,
I only saw her at school.
I heard a rumor she only spends her time by the lake,her brother Eli is buried there.
Most people stayed away from her.
She looks lovely today, she has dark auburn hair and warm hazel eyes.
She was really nice.
I looked away to the stage as the presenter cleared her throat.
She started a projector on the wall behind her.

" So, you all know why your here."
"Let me explain the rules now quickly, we're a little behind on time" she paused as the projector flashed
" You all will be transported to
the forest of Kalaopisa." The projector projected the name 'Forest of Kalaopisa'.
"You will have 7 days starting tomorrow to survive in Kalaopisa,"
she smiled eerily. "There will be....certain obstacles, to prove
You do have abilities,"
" we will hold you to the standard of having the power to do something extraordinary that no ordinary human could do."
" if you do not...well let's just hope you won't find out what happens." She laughed.
" Oh I almost forgot my name is professor Cathect."
" Now for the history," she started

" I know, I know, it's boring but
It is important to this great nation."
" So my great great great grandfather give or take, found a new phenomenon,
People were gaining special abilities'"
He became leader of his land, and started camps to filter out the powerless, or what we call them, the Orphic."
His board finally came up with the idea of putting every kid in our territory through a 7 day trial of survival, to filter out the Orphic."

"Now it's getting late, your captains will guide you to your dorms.
My advice for all of you is get a good nights rest and eat as much as you can, also drink a lot of water."
"Oh and try and activate your powers tonight"
"Goodnight everyone."

She left the stage to the left swiftly. We all stayed seated waiting for direction.

Our group was one of the first
to lead us through a maze of corridors.
I looked through the doors
Along the way
A lot were science labs, conference rooms, lounges, gyms, and a kitchen.
I doubt I will have much time to explore.

We opened the door to a room labeled 92kt we all got a small bed with one green blanket and a pillow. On each bed was a name tag, towels, shower soap, night wear and our unit for tomorrow.
The list on the wall read.
•Train 10 am to 4pm
•Dressing and seating 4:30pm
•orientation 5:00 to 5:30
• Getting room 5:40
•Break 5:40 - 6:00
•dinner in the mess hall 6:15 to 7:00
Showers 7:10 to 8:30
Be in beds 8:45
Lights off 9:39.

I sighed and looked at the clock,6:55,
Oli and Finn were talking,
"Hey June," chimed Finn
"Wasn't Ms.Cathect a little...well,"
He said looking around suspiciously,

" yeah," Oli and I said in sync

We all laughed, it felt nice laughing,
I haven't felt joy in the last week.

"Did you see Clare and Emmy, they
Both a black eyes." Questioned Oli
He scrunched up his eyebrows.

"You think one of the captains hit them,"I whispered?

"Are they even allowed to do that,"
Finn asked

"I mean, if they are sending some of us to die, I guess they are."

"Time for dinner, follow me to the  mess hall."
Out captain came in with a bang.
We filed out into the large hall and
Started walking down.
We got in the food line with our red trays.
They do serve pretty good food.
They had almost any thing.
I got pasta, bread, broccoli, fruit and a piece of vanilla cake.

I know it's a lot, but one I don't get a lot of food at home because most people are poor, and
two professor Cathect told us it will be hard to get food in the forest.

We sat down at a empty table.
Oli got the biggest bowl of soup I have ever seen,and the smallest amount of vegetables to match.
Finn got a stack of waffles with about a few cups of syrup on them, bacon and watermelon.

"You know it's dinner time, right Finn."
We all laughed.
"It could be worse I could only be getting desserts like frank over there," he said with a smirk nodding his head a a boy named Frank.

Frank just looked up confused. We all ate and talked about normal stuff, or as normal as we could.

We all want really different powers.
Oli wants some kind of element powers
(Water especially)
Finn wants to fly and, or be a shapeshifter.

I of course didn't really care but telekinesis would be super (duper) cool.

The strength of your power
Would tell your place in society.
Our dad had dream bending.

So if you had a strong power like strength, healing or time control, you would have more power.
But if you had a power like flight, tech or dream bending you would have to work harder.

We finished our dinner (and dessert)
and headed back to dorms.

I grabbed my stuff and headed to the showers.

When I got back Finn and Oli
Both had wet hair and the uniform sleep where on, the were siting in front a each other, criss cross.
I could here Finn telling a joke, trying to cheer Oli up.

"You guys sleeping together," I laughed, as I said that.
Even though I kinda like Finn I can't act upon it or at least now.

"Shut up June," Oli said becoming red
Finn just laughed even more.

I went over to the lounge were there was a small library, I picked a random book
Up and bargain to read.
It was about the adventures of two men in the 1960s but one of them was drafted to war. It seemed happy but I only got threw a few chapters.
"Lights out"

There was a voice on a speakers,
everyone was in bed after a few
Moments of shuffling.
I was on my back wide awake.
I thought about my family back home, I thought about my dad and my little sister. I fell asleep after a few hours.
