I didn't know what to do at first. I sat in my car, music turned all the way down, looking at the scene before me. Was I supposed to go and see what's wrong? He looked so beat up, blood dripping down his face from a big gash in his forehead.
I slumped back in my seat. I probably look like some weirdo, hanging my head out the window, trying to get a good look at this guys face. I can't help it though, something in his eyes flashed with terror as if I'd be the last thing he'd see. I can help but feel worried for this guy whom I've never met.
Another police car came to the scene and two policemen came out. They had talkie-talkies and two signs in their hands. One of the police officers stood in front on my line of cars, while the other went to the opposite side of the street. My officer held up a sign reading "SLOW".
I did as said and drove away slowly, only glancing in my rear view mirror to see if the guy had gained consciousness yet.
He didn't.
As I neared the campus, I started to search for my dorm room sign. As it came into view, I saw Carly getting things out of her trunk and going into the dormitories. I parked my car next to hers and start to gather my things as well. I headed inside with my four suit cases in tow. I knocked on my dorm and Carly opened up with a huge smile, greeting me with a hug.
"Hey, Sophia! How was your summer?" She asked as I stepped into the dorm.
"It was pretty good, and yours?" I asked.
"Fantastic," she said with a girly grin. "Jacob and I went to the Bahamas with both of our families."
"Wow, I've heard about the Bahamas, they have the prettiest, most blue water. Am I correct?'
"Yes you are, indeed."
I laughed and sat my bags down on my bed. The old thing squeaked slightly when I sat down with all the suitcases. "Ugh, I really don't want to unpack right now."
Carly laughed from her side of the room and turned around to me, "Then lets not do it. Lets go into town."
"I guess," I said. "Where to?"
"Coffee sound good?" she asked.
I nodded and we both left the dorm, locking it on my way out. We got into Carly's car and drove down to "Mama Callie's". She was like the next big thing aside from where I worked, "Sweet Tooth." You could say that they are two main competing shops on campus.
Although, I'd rather work at Mama's I need more money, which led me to work at Sweet Tooth. I wish that wouldn't have been the deciding factor, but the faster I pay back my college loans, the faster I'll be able to use my money to get out of my parents house and my dorm and into the town I love.
Carly pulled her straight black hair into a sleek pony tail as we entered the shop. The smell of coffee comforted my nose as we strolled up to the cashier. We both ordered frappe's with extra espresso and sat down at one of the small booths.
The news was playing behind me and I heard some talk about a crash on 71. I turned around to see the truck has been extinguished since the last time I saw it and the two cars were successfully pulls apart. Two people were pronounced dead, the rest with intense injuries.
"That looks awful," Carly said from behind me.
I nodded and took a sip from my frappe, "Yeah, I got stuck in traffic waiting for them to get the road clear. The guy in the truck was on fire, I think he was one that didn't make it."
"I wonder who the others were, it says they're college students."
I turned around to see the names scrolling beneath pictures of the people involved in the crash. I only got a small glimpse of the name beneath the picture corresponding with the guy who I had made eye contact with. I saw enough to know his name was Drake.
