Heaviness Of Heart

Realistically, there were a lot of things that I could have said to him. I could have asked him if he needed anything. If there was anything that I could do for him.

I didn't know the whole truth about what had happened with to Keir's father, but I knew enough to understand why it got him so worked up.

Yofiel glanced at me out of the corner of his eye every once in awhile. Then he would look ahead of us at Keir. He was walking a lot quicker than the two of us were, and every few minutes I would hear him curse under his breath.

I found it strange that I didn't know what to do. Keir wasn't the first human that I had ever interacted with. There was Marianna...and...

But that didn't matter right now.

"Perhaps we should tell him Solas." Yofiel whispered as he came to a stop.

I whipped my head in his direction and looked him up and down skeptically.

"I know that you worry for him, and maybe telling him the truth will put him in danger." He sighed as he glanced back to Keir.

"But if there is anyone that deserves an explanation around here, I believe that it is him. While he may have dragged himself into a calamity that would have otherwise remained unknown to mankind, he still deserves answers. We cannot deny him the truth. He will find out one way or another Corvus."

A quiet and heavy sigh escaped my nose. I watched the ground where my feet lay. As if it would give me some other answer.

No. I knew that Yofiel was right. As much as I hated to put Keir in anymore danger, he would be safer if he were aware. At least then he would know what to look out for.

Maybe I'm just selfish.

'You can't protect everyone Raven.'

An old conversation that I had had with Abdiel found its way back into my thoughts.

'As a demon, your human-like nature will be your undoing. You cannot trust everyone that you meet. Even now, you could be at risk by just conversing with me.'

Sighing, I looked over to find Keir sitting patiently on a rock some way away from us.

'Humans are so different from us. They don't live forever. Yet you keep getting yourself involved with them none the less.'

My feet slowly carried me to where Keir was, my eyes fixed on him.

'What are you trying to attain for yourself Solas? Perhaps you are lonely. Or maybe, you feel guilty.'

Keir didn't give me any indication that he knew that I was there, but I sat down next to him anyways.

'You're punishing yourself.'

"I lied."

The raven-haired boy jumped slightly. Then he turned his head and looked at me.

His eyes were slightly blood-shot and his cheeks were a rosy pink.

"When I said that you didn't need to worry about it. I lied."

He watched me with wide eyes. But he waited, silently.

"...Keir. This is something beyond you. Beyond your world, maybe even beyond what you've ever seen."

"Things will only continue to get more dangerous from here. That's why I want to ask...are you sure that you want to do this?"

His silence was something that frightened me for some odd reason. I suppose it was because I was used to his outbursts and bubbly attitude.

But now that things were serious, I could tell that not only did he have his friendly and happy side, he also had the capability to take things seriously.
