The horn is originally built sharp. So, you'll find that you will often be out of tune if you do not take the time to tune it. You don't know how? Well, I'm about to tell you.
It's important to maintain mindfulness when tuning an instrument. It can be hard, though it seems to not be difficult at all.
**Important Note: The slide on the back of the horn is usually the MAIN TUNING SLIDE.**
The best note to start off with when tuning the double horn is C (thumb key only or open). When tuning, make sure that you know every note is 100% accurate. If they are not, you will get waves in your tone; that indicates you are NOT IN TUNE. The 2 BEST ways to check if you are in tune are to check with a tuner, or to have a friend check (if they are with you).
When you are finished tuning, the next step is to warm up. You will be instructed how to do so in the next lesson.
