We finally reached the front door of my house. I looked at the tall skinny house that was in-between similar looking buildings. I believe one was apartments and the other was a house, i couldn't remember which side was which. The house that Miss Karmin had left me was really starting to look like a relic from the past. It still looked like it did when I was a kid. That lady always made sure until the day she died that her house looked in tip-top shape. After she passed, I made sure I took care of her house as much as could.
This place never really felt like my house once she passed. Even to this day, I still think of the place as Miss Karmin's slice of heaven. I loved the house, but it was lonely now. It was only me living there. No ore cats, no more her, it was always dead silent. I usually kept my T.V. on when I was home so I wouldn't feel so lonely.
I never had friends, even now, I don't really have friends. I was antiquated with people at work, but not enough to invite them over. To be fair, I was never a big fan of most of the people I worked with.
I turned to Nicolas and said, "Thank you for walking me home, and for saving me from that guy."
"You're welcome." He said, he was about to turned and walk away when something over came me and I grabbed his arm. He looked back at me with confusing in his face.
"Will you stay with me? Just for a while, I don't have anyone living with me, it gets lonely." I said looking at him, I could feel the tears trying to pour down my face, but I wasn't going to cry.
Nicolas looked at me and nodded. I was surprised that he had agreed, but was happy that I wasn't going to be alone for a change.
I let his arm go and walked up to the door of the house, grabbing my keys out of one of the small pockets on my bag. I unlocked the door and held it open as Nicolas walked in. I came in after, shutting the door behind me and opening the curtains to the windows on the first floor. There wasn't much to the first floor of this place. It had a small living space and kitchen just off the living room. There was just enough space in-between both rooms for a small dining set. The stairs heading to the bedrooms and bathroom upstairs were against the right wall, opposite the front door. The cellar was only available through the outside, where there were two small doors implanted in the ground going down to the sidewalk cellar. But Miss Karmin had left a lock on it and I never really had any interest in going down there. I had the keys in a drawer in my nightstand in my bedroom, but again, was never really interested.
I watched as Nicolas looked around the room, taking in every detail. I could tell he was confused by the decor of the house. I, a 24 year old woman, lived in a house that looks like it was designed by someone's grandmother. To be fair, it did used to belong to a 87 year old woman. I had never really thought about changing the wallpaper that began to dull more and more. Or buy new furniture that would be a little more suited for someone my age. I walked over to Nicolas and he looked in my direction. I stood in-front of him and spoke;
"Thank you. For everything, if there's anything, anything at all I can do for you and Worick, please ask. It's the least I can do." He nodded and pulled some white piece of paper out his pant pocket and handed it to me.
I took it and saw a number on it. "Call Worick if you need anything." He said looking down at me. I smiled and nodded. "I guess I should let you go. Worick is probably waiting for you at the station. I have to change and head down there too so-"
"I can wait for y-you." Nicolas said, cutting me off.
"Are you sure?" I asked. I didn't want to keep him here longer than I had already but, having someone around and to talk to felt kind of nice. I don't have friends so having had Worick and Nicolas around most of the morning was a nice change.
Nicolas nodded at me and leaned against the wall near the front door. "Okay, thank you. I'll be right back." I said as I walked over to the stairs climbed up them to my room. When you walked up to the second floor of the house to the left of the hallway, was the bathroom door, to the right, the door to my room, and at the end of the hall, Miss Karmin's room. For a long time, it took me awhile to get over the fact that I wasn't going to wake up one day and she'd magically appear. Maybe I should redecorate at some point.
I opened the door to my room and walked over to my dresser. All the furniture in my room was also all owned by her. She had allowed me when I moved in to paint my room and buy little pictures and things I could hang up on the wall. She always made it a point to make sure I had a way to be a kid and express myself, without getting into trouble. Since then, my room has not changed much. Still had all the old antique white bed frame and matching dressers and makeup vanity, the faded sky blue walls and the pictures and things I've had up since I was 14. My room would look so much better, if I picked up all the clothes that were all over the place.
I took my backpack off my shoulders and looked in my dresser for clean clothes. Thankful, I still had some clean clothes left.
'Note to self; do laundry tonight.'
I changed out of my current clothes, undergarments, and shoes to put on a new bra and pantie set, as well some black jeans and a plan green tee-shirt. I didn't bother to much looking for new socks, knowing that I would probably take forever to find a matching pair in the monstrosity I called my room.
I put on my shoes and grabbed my backpack and walked out of my room, closing the door behind me. I rushed back downstairs to see Nicolas wasn't by the door anymore. He was looking around in the small kitchen. I watched him for a few seconds as he observed everything. He was kind of cute to watch, him taking in the new surrounds. He then turned around and caught me staring. I admittedly blushed and said "We can go now!" probably way too loud for the fact that he couldn't even hear me. Nicolas walked back over to me and patted my head. I felt my face turn even more red and then he said, "It's rude to stare." teasingly with a small smirk and a slight chuckle. My face was now on fire and as red as it probably could have been.
"We should go now." I said and grabbed his armed and led him to the door. I opened the door as fast as I could and allowed him to walk out first. He walked out still with a smirk on his face.
I walked out and locked the door behind me and than walked up to where Nicolas was waiting for me and we started to head down the street to get to the station. I was still blushing, embarrassed he had caught me staring. I was never really one to stare at people, even if they were attractive, but something about Nicolas was different and I just couldn't look away.
'What is this man doing to me?'
