I quietly sit there alone throughout the ride there. A candor girl who was sitting next to Beatrice stands up, and looks out the door. "They're jumping!" She almost yells at Beatrice. "What?" Beatrice asked and got up the same time I did. We looked out and saw people from the cars ahead of us jumping out. We are now 7 stories high, and people are jumping out of the freaking train? One by one the initiates are jumping out of the train and onto the roof. My heart started to speed up. Our car was almost there."What the hell? You can't actually expect us to jump out?" This guy from Candor asks. Nobody answers him. We are arriving to the roof. Nobody is near the door. Everyone just stares at each other.
"Who's going to go first?" The guy from Candor asks. "Well if we sit around and wait we are going to miss the jump." I said. "Are you going to go first then? I doubt you will, a little Erudite girl, would go first." He said I turned and looked at him. I took a deep breath and jumped. I landed on my knees and rolled. Rocks digging into my skin, tearing at my clothes. I just laid there staring at the sky for a second. I then stood up and dusted myself off. People were landing all around me. Beatrice and that other Candor girl jumped out soon after.
"Listen up!" The same blonde guy who administered my aptitude test says as he stands on the ledge of the building. "My name is Eric! I am one of the leaders of your new faction! Several stories below us is the members' entrance to our compound. If you can't muster up the will to jump off, you don't belong here. Our initiates have the privilege of going first." Everyone just stared at each other not knowing what to do. Eric looked around. "Well somebody has to go eventually." He said.
"Fine. I will go." I said the crowd parted, so I could get through. I look over the ledge. Down many stories is a hole in the roof. I looked up at Eric. I reached up and pulled the pin out of my hair letting it fall down my back. I turned and looked at everyone and then climbed onto the ledge. I turned glanced at everyone and then fell back into the unknown. The fall was surprisingly peaceful. My head surrounded in a pool of hair. Everything happened in slow motion. Next, thing I know I land hard. My breath was knocked out of me. I slowly rolled over and someone helped me out of the net that I landed in.
"Name?" He asked. "Kai." I stated. He stared at me for a second then yelled. "First jumper! Kai!" I then stood there as the next person jumps. Beatrice. Then followed by Christina. I ignored the rest after that. After a while everyone was on solid ground again. Eric walked around the corner and said something to the guy who helped me out of the net. The guy nodded and walked to the front of the crowd.
"My names Four. I'll be giving you guys a tour of the compound. All transfers are with me. Dauntless born go with Lauren." He said and pointed to this girl with long black hair. We all split. I am in the back of the crowd as everyone starts to follow Four. I glance behind me. Lauren and her group are gone. They went the other way. The only one there was Eric. He just stood there. Staring. Staring at me. I turn and follow the group down the very dark hallway.
We walked down the extensive dark hallway. Every once in while there would be a strip of light. Eventually we made it to the dormitory. Four turned and looked at us.
"This is where you guy's will be staying, until initiation is over. Then you guys will be moved into apartments. If you make it that far." He explained.
The boy from Candor -Peter- piped up. "What do you mean, 'If we make it that far'?"
"I mean what I said. There will be 3 sections of initiation. First, is physical. You will practice fighting, shooting, throwing knives and more. The second, is mental. You will discover your deepest fears. Then the third, you will work on bravery. At the end of each section you will be ranked. Whoever makes the top ten gets to stay, whoever falls below get's thrown out." Four explained.
