Alexander stood at the doorstep of his dorm. He had his bags at either sides of him, gripping them hard with excitement and anticipation. It was the first day of college, and Alexander had worked so hard to get to where he was right now. With no family, and no job, Alexander had been stranded on the streets. His friend Lafayette had taken care of him for the years, but refused to pay for his college funds. Alexander somehow mustered up enough money to get him in the program and well, here he is. At the door of his dorm, his future, and his life for the next few years.
He opened the door, shaky with eagerness. Alexander looked around. It was like any other dorm, a kitchen, three rooms, and a couch and TV in the middle. Alexander sighed and called out to see if either of his roommates had arrived yet, but no one answered.
Alexander walked into one of the rooms and made himself at home. He hooked up his laptop on the desk and clicked on the lamp. He put his bags on the dull, blue bed and opened them. He pulled out his fluffy green blanket, along with his pillows. He situated them on the bed and finally pulled out a stuffed lion. It was worn down and mangled. Alexander had gotten it when he was just five years old. It was a wonder how he managed to keep it since then.
Suddenly, the door of the dorm opened. Alexander looked back, then felt excitement tingle within him. He bounced over to the door of his room and peaked out, only to gasp at what he saw. A beautiful boy with freckles speckling his face stood in front of him. He had a wide smile on his face and his magnificent green eyes shone. Alexander felt his heart skip a beat and he raced over to the boy.
"Hello, I'm your roommate! My name is Alexander Hamilton. You can call me Alex, though," Alexander said, holding out a hand. The boy took his hand and shook it gently.
"I'm John Laurens. Nice to meet you!" John said. Alexander gawked at his voice. It was beautiful.
"So," Alexander said, "Your room is over there. I'll be in my room, just come in if you want anything." John nodded and walked into his room. Alexander observed his silky, curly brown hair that bounced behind him when he walked. Alexander sighed and went back into his own room. He collapsed on his bed. Oh god, I'm in love, he thought with a sigh.
Alexander snuggled into his soft green blanket, closing his eyes and imagining John's wonderful green eyes. He blushed and giggled, burying his face into it.
"Wow," John said from the doorway. Alexander bolted upright, embarrassed.
"Uh- how much did you see?" Alexander asked, his face beet red. John laughed.
"All of it," John replied. Alexander blushed even harder. John came over and say next to Alexander.
"It was really cute," he whispered, leaning in. Alexander smiled, his face still flushed. John fell onto his back, staring up at the ceiling.
"So, what brings you here?" Alexander asked, curious.
"Well, I came here to be a marine biologist. I have a passion for turtles, and I heard that this college has good science teachers," John explained, fiddling with his wild curls. "How about you?"
"I love to write and I hope to become a future author. I also love the study of African animals, especially the lion," Alexander said, glancing over at his stuffed lion. John chuckled.
"Sooooo," John said, sitting up.
"So, turtles, huh?"
"Yup," John said with a grin, "They're majestic and amazing." Alexander laughed.
"I bet. Want me to draw you one?" Alexander asked, pulling out his sketching book. John nodded excitedly.
"That would be awesome!" John said and watched over his shoulder as Alexander sketched out a cute drawing of a turtle. Alexander outlined it black and drew tiny hearts around it. John squealed from the adorableness.
"You are so good!" John said, observing the drawing.
"Gee, thanks," Alexander responded, his cheeks pink.
"I feel like we're going to get along spectacular."
