that evening
i ran longer than i usually do.
i soon found myself in
a neighbourhood i didn't recognise.
i started to panic
when i realised
that i was lost.
i sped up to a sprint and turned corners
rounded edges
crossed roads
but i had no idea where i was.
i eventually stopped to catch my breath and pulled out my phone to
check the time.
18:43.
frustration boiled through me
my chest felt like
sandpaper inside
and i somehow wanted to cry.
with aching muscles and weak limbs i walked down the road
and heard a door slam loudly to my left.
i glanced further down the road and watched as someone pushed open
a wooden gate
in a hurry.
it wasn't until they neared
that i recognised the face
but it wasn't bright like i was used to.
her arms were hugging her body
hair falling over her eyes
so that i almost didn't notice
that
Midori was crying.
