“how are you doing?”
Kohaku was lying upside down with his legs up against the wall.
i sat on the edge of the bed
looking outside the window.
the sky had cleared
and a gentle breeze had arrived
after the heavy snow early this morning.
i shrugged in reply.
one week had passed since she left and i still felt empty
like nothing could fill the void inside of me.
we’d texted but it just wasn’t the same.
the time difference didn’t help either.
“does your dad know about
you know...”
i shook my head.
i wasn’t planning on telling him either.
it didn’t matter now.
not when i wasn’t with a girl.
i’d probably end up with a guy one day anyway
it was just easier.
Kohaku rolled over to face me
and grinned widely.
“coming in for a hug,” he said
then leapt up and enveloped me in a warm embrace
pushing the air out of my lungs in the process.
it was hard not to smile when he was your friend
so i did.
“thank you,” i murmured into his shirt
and he hummed in response.
“really.”
