Midori and i broke apart from our hug.

her eyes glistened with tears.

“i’ll message you.”

i nodded.

“i’ll call you.”

she tugged on the drawstrings of my hood.

“i’ll skype you.”

we stared at each other

trying to put every feature

every freckle

every edge

to memory.

trying to remember the way she looked at me

with her sea-green   viridian eyes

washing over me.

we stared

hardly blinking

drinking in each other’s face.

then Midori leaned in

and kissed me.

i knew it was our last

our last moment alone

our last moment to be ourselves

with no prying parents’ eyes.

we tried to make the contact last as long as we could

but time flew by all too fast.

goodbye.

this is goodbye.

Midori.

“Midori,”

i really love you

i really love you.”

i love you too, she says

“i love you too.”

don’t forget me

“don’t forget me.”

i’ll always remember you, she says

“i’ll always remember you.”

we parted.

our legs moved forward

and we walked towards her house.
