"I'm sure you'd love this pie! It's a special pie crust filled with fresh blueberry filling." I said trying to convince this old homeless man to eat a pie at the soup kitchen.
"Not if you made it, it won't be good!" Aaron teased walking by.
"Hey shut up!"
"She probably tripped or burnt it as klutzy as she is." He laughed.
"I'm sorry, don't listen to him, Aaron's a bit mentally slower than the average boy his age." I told the old man.
"Yes I am." He winked.
"C'mon Aaron you're scaring him!" I teased playfully pushing him away. The old man's eyes sparkled with delight and he let out a laugh for the first time.
"Hello sir, I would like you to have the delight of tasting some REAL pie!" Aaron interrupted bringing in a rectangular apple pie.
"That's from McDonalds!" I protested.
"You don't know that! Maybe it's from Wendy's!"
"Well my pie is still better, and it's HOMEMADE." I argued. The old man sampled both the pies and declared mine was better.
"Guess who told you!" I bragged.
Our argument ended later with a dish water war.
"We're soaking wet!" I laughed.
"No YOU'RE soaking wet." Aaron corrected. He drove me home and made me sit on a plastic grocery bag.
"You'll get my seat wet!" He said.
"Why aren't YOU sitting on one?" I asked.
"My car, my rules." Aaron said. "So um, how's Corey?" He asked overly casual.
"Well he's ok, he seems pretty into me and he's really sweet." I blushed.
"Oh." Was all he said. It was a awkward silence after that.
"Do you have a date for the dance?" I asked.
"Well not really. I'm waiting for the right girl." Did Aaron sound wistful?
"Alright we are here." He declared. He walked me to the door and I couldn't help thinking how much like a date thing to do. He punched me in the arm.
"Try no to trip and fall off a cliff or something." He joked referring to my klutziness.
"I'll see what I can do." We looked into each others eyes for a moment then looked away awkwardly.
"See you tomorrow!" I said finally.
"Yeah." He agreed.
