I became attached to Delta company of the regiment with a couple of good friends; Chance Grant from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Benjamin Lee who was born in Mississippi but stayed loyal to the Union and Ethan Sherman of Cincinnati, Ohio. For the last three days we were stationed at Camp Wilkins near Pittsburgh. Today we're heading off to Louisville, Kentucky via steamboats on the Monongahela and Ohio rivers. My sincere hope is that those Johnny Rebs don't try to shoot out boats as we're trying to head to the rendezvous point. Eventually, as I recall, we were to arrive at Camp Nevin on Nolan Creek, some 51 miles south of the city. Drilling will probably be in our best interest if we are to one day go into battle and face the enemy. That night I pray to the Lord, as the good Catholic I am, to have mercy on both us and our Southern brothers, so we all meet in heaven.
