Chapter 13 Fall from on High

I never planned to let anyone know about my secret love for art nor did I ever plan to give anyone an insight on my personal life, but Beth exhibited an aura, a type I had not seen since Scarlet.

She was trusting and compassionate, and fiery when she wanted to be. She built up walls to protect herself from the outside world probably thinking that no one can break through. I knew the feeling. She was fragile but a warrior at heart; not letting her feelings affect those around her. She would cry tears of silence but brave her face to the rest of the world. 

It's been two days since our date and I was going to see her tomorrow. She asked me why I hadn't shown up to school today but Charlie texted me last night and I had overslept the following morning.

We continued to message back and forth throughout the two days but I felt she wasn't convinced with my earlier excuse as to why I wasn't at school. I had never been a liar and was definitely not a cheater. Sure I've had a few hookups but I have never been in a relationship and was disloyal. Heck, I've never been in a relationship, period. But Beth couldn't know what I had been up to last night. I had just won her over and was not going to lose her now. I've already lost Scarlet and fell into an abyss of despair when she died a few years ago. I cannot lose Beth if I can control it.

I will tell her when the time is right. But it's not now.

Beep.

I checked my phone but as soon as I saw Charlie's name display on the screen my smile fell from my face.

Charlie: 89 Spencer street. 12am. Be prepared. BIG MONEY.

I had nearly thrown my phone against the wall had it not been for Beth messaging me saying she is looking forward to seeing me tomorrow. She had calmed me down with a single text.

I guess if I wanted to remain calm I had to prepare myself for what was to come. I changed into a pair of a shorts and threw on a hoodie, I took my phone and headphones and headed out for a run. I couldn't chase nor run away from my problems, but I could gather my thoughts and elicit adrenaline before tonight.
