It was now lunchtime and Carlos had still not made any form of appearance. He couldn't be avoiding me? We spoke throughout the entire weekend and all of yesterday.
Beth: Where are you?
I was never a clingy person, and nor am I now but his absence peaked my curiousity because Carlos didn't strike me as a person who would miss out on a day of school due to a head cold.
I checked my phone to see if I had missed any incoming texts with no such luck. As I was about to take my leave, a pair of hands covered my eyes. Anticipating that it would be Carlos I removed his hands and turned around only I wasn't met with the familiar forest green eyes I've become accustomed to but instead Adam stood there grinning from ear to ear.
My thousand watt smile, diminished a little before I stepped away leaving some space between the two of us.
" Hey Adam, how are you?" I plastered on a smile hoping to conceal my disappointment. Not that talking to Adam was unbearable, but my hopes were high for Carlos.
" You seem to be disappointed, were you expecting someone else?" He questioned dubiously.
" No, no. You just surprised me that's all." I covered up. He looked at me hesitantly then took a seat opposite me.
" You know Beth, I haven't seen you in awhile, I hope I didn't scare you away the other week." I noticed Adam was pink in the cheeks and rubbing the back of his neck unsure of what my reaction was to be.
" No, I've just been busy, trying to stay on top of this workload we call homework. This is our last year and I don't want to just pass, I want to excel." It was true I have always been an honours student, but I used this as an excuse because I had a feeling Adam's intentions was not to stop at friendship only.
"Ah, I see. So you wouldn't be able to pencil me into your busy work schedule this friday night would you?" Poor soul, he sounded so hopeful it broke my heart to tell him that I was kind of seeing someone at the moment, and promised to introduce him to some friends of mine.
He made an excuse to leave before the bell went off signalling the end of our break.

Seventh period had rolled around and half way through Adonis himself decided to grace us with his presence, Something was off though. Very off. Carlos had his Hoodie up and his head down walking in with a quick apology to Mr.Young, and heading to his usual seat at the back of the class.
I turned in his direction sveral times throughout the next half hour trying to grab his attention and deciphering what's got him coiled into a shell of solitude. I thought it would be best to wait till the final bell rung to ask him what was wrong.
As soon as Mr.Young dismissed us I dashed after Carlos, trying match his hastened, long strides.
" Carlos!" I called his name countless times before I realised my power walk was starting to scare people so I decided why not go all out and turn it into a jog. Guess when many of the student body informed me that Carlos had girls chasing him right and left, I didn't think they meant it literally.
" Carlos!" I tried again and this time he stopped noticing he had led us down thed hall, just outside the gym which I presume was locked because otherwise I would still be chasing him through the double doors.
" Can I know why you're avoiding me?" Yikes. I just realised how clingy that sounded. " What I meant was-"
" What you meant was you need to leave." He said it so icly, a shiver ran through my body, and not the good kind. The hair on my arms stood up but it made me more aware of Carlos' demeanour.
" What is your problem Sanchez?! I'm not your personal punching bag! So when you're done PMSing and get over this phase you're going through, don't bother contacting me... because I'm tired of your bullshit."
I strode back down the corridor being affected more than necessary by the way he avoided me. That could only mean one thing. I was slowly falling for Carlos and it was happening faster than I expected.
