Celeste held Liza's hand as they walked into the large side room in the church. Kyle walked behind them, watching with interest. The room buzzed with excited activity. Liza immediately tried to turn around. She argued with Celeste for a while, and didn't listen to any of her points. "You must be Liza." A voice said, and the girl stopped, froze, and turned around. She was surprised when the short girl gave her a hug and said. "I've been waiting to talk to you all day. Celeste told me what happened, and that you're feeling down."
She nodded, and Sammy took her hand and led her away. "So, is there something you want to talk about, specifically?" She asked, and Liza shook her head.
"Why would I talk to you," she asked accusingly. "It's not like the same thing happened to you." She saw Sam slowly nod, and quickly apologized.
"It's alright," she said. I figured Celeste had told you, but she doesn't really tell other people secrets, which is good. She's so nice. And-never mind. I'm here, if you need to talk about anything, okay? You just ask me, and I'll tell you." Liza was silent for a bit as they walk around and said hi to a few girls. Sam introduced Liza as he best friend, and they all smiled and waved. Liza wasn't sure how she felt about that, but Sam must have a reason for it.
"Sam," she said at last, and Sam veered away from people to give her privacy. "How are you so happy? After, what happened, didn't you feel worthless?" Sam nodded.
"I did," she said. "But Kyle showed me that no matter what happened in my past, God will still love me. He said that sometimes, God allows certain things to happen to make us stronger and better." She lowered her voice. "Before I actually believed Kyle, I cut, did drugs. I even tried suicide. I figured, that if somebody did that to me, I wasn't worth anyone's time. I was worthless. But God tells me every morning that He loves me, and He's proud of me. It's really cool, actually." Liza stopped and stared at her.
"You can actually hear God? But, isn't He some divine being who's more holy than you? No offense." Sam laughed.
"Yes, He is. The Bible says that we are unworthy, but that God is perfect. And, yes, He does talk to me. He talks to alot of people. All the time, really. He whispers to me, and tells me I'm beautiful." Liza tried to wrap her head around the concept, but it was hard.
"So," she said slowly, trying to figure it all out. "How would you talk to God?"
"It's actually really simple," Sam said. "It's like you're talking to a person, but you address your words and thoughts to God. I'm not the right person to ask. Ask the youth pastor, or Kyle or somebody like that." Liza nodded, and they talked more about recuperating after something so tragic had happened.
Kyle and Celeste just watched the excitement. MIKESCHAIR was back, and they were gonna be playing all night for the party. It wasn't a party for any particular reason, the youth just wanted one. Kyle looked down, and grabbed Celeste's hand, then smiled as she tightened her grip.
"Kyle?" she asked in a nervous tone, and he gave her his full attention. "Will He accept me? Will he want me?" Kyle smiled and kissed her gently.
"He ALWAYS wanted you. He's waiting. The only reason why I want Pastor to pray with you, is because I want to make sure that somebody is there that knows how it's all done. It's not a big ceremony or anything, but some structure is good, and I don't do well with structure.
Throughout the night, there was nothing but fun. Kyle went around and made sure everybody was smiling. Not that people weren't, but he just had to make sure. About fifty two-liters were emptied, and there was still plenty. Celeste listened to the music, and danced a little bit.
She listened to the message, and almost cried. It was like the guy was talking to her. Afterwards, they had an alter call, and she grabbed Kyle's hand before she went up. "I'm scared," she whispered, and squeezed her hand.
"Do you want me up there with you?" He asked. "I don't mind." She nodded her head, and they went up, hand in hand, to the front. Celeste closed her eyes and waited for the pastor to come over. She listened to her favorite song
You are more than flesh and bone. Can't you see you're something beautiful? Yeah, you gotta believe, you gotta believe. He wants you to see, He wants you to see.
That you're not just some wandering soul, that can't be seen and can't be known. Yeah, you gotta believe, you gotta believe that you. Are someone worth dying for.
Tears streamed down her face as the pastor came over and helped her pray for forgiveness. She prayed with all the sincerity and earnestness that she had, and felt warmth from somewhere in the room fll her body. It was so beautiful. She hugged Kyle and cried for a few minutes. "He loves me." She said over and over. "Kyle, He really loves me."
"Yes He does, Celeste." He said. Yes He does." Liza saw what happened, and wanted to be a part of it. She asked Sam to come up with her, and told the pastor that she just wanted what Sam had. The pastor smiled and explained the story of God, and she understood. She remembered what her old church had taught her, before she stopped going, and knew that all that they said was true.
Liza and Celeste were the most enthusiastic singers afterward. They loved being in that place, and they loved being accepted.
