Raze watched his target, Malahki. The swine was lying in a comfortable bed. Little did he know that the assassin was hidden in the darkest corner of the room.
"Do you attack now?" a small voice asked, a child's voice.
"Will you stop asking... you will get us caught Red," Raze whispered very quietly.
The boy looked down, having been scolded. Raze pulled out his knife. Despite having only one eye, Raze had great depth perception. He had only one eye since childhood. The beautiful curved knife grinned at Raze, tempting him. He looked at Malahki. It was now or never. He hated the fact that the boy had to come with him. It was irritating. The child knew nothing about killing. He was only nine and was assigned to the deadliest assassin the Harpers owned. They had about seven assassins in total, and they chose him.
Wasn't he just lucky?
Raze moved silently, you could hear a pen drop in the room. The air was still. Saying this job was dangerous was an understatement. One little fuck up and it would be all over... it required patience, silence, stealth, speed and agility. Guards were crawling all over the place, all of which Raze possessed. Raze was the top ranked assassin for the Harpers. The reason that Daniel Harper, his owner, sent Raze to kill Malahki is because he had betrayed Harpers cousin, Alen, sending Alen to the Chair, which is what they called the electric chair.
Now or never. Raze thought. He knew Red was watching him closely. The boy had to learn. Raze, with quick ferocity, plunged the dagger deep into Malahki's chest. Waking the rat immediately. Unable to make a sound, chocking on his own blood as it raised in his mouth. They man's brown eyes filled with an emotion Raze always saw in his targets eyes.
Fear.
Raze watched with a monotonous expression as the light left Malahki's eyes. He did feel regret. He really did, but at this point, having been an assassin for years, it didn't affect him anymore. He was numb to it now. He turned to Red, the child looked shocked and terrified. Raze pulled out the dagger from Malahki's chest and wiped the blood off.
"Let's go Red," he said.
"Okay..." Red said.
The whole way back to their cabin, Red kept asking if it would always petrify him when he kills someone. Raze said no, maybe for Red, the boy was no assassin. Raze unlocked the door to the cabin and walked in with his ward. To say that Praxus, another assassin for the Harpers and Raze's self-acclaimed best friend, freaked out was an understatement. Praxus held the dagger at the ready, his aqua eyes cold and hard. Thinking he had just been caught.
"It's just me, Praxus... let me guess Jace is here?" Red asked.
Praxus lowered the knife as Jace Harper, Daniel Harpers only son, sat up, his strawberry hair looking orange in the light cast from the fireplace. The thing was, Praxus and Jace were lovers, and they have been since they were fourteen. They were both eighteen now. Jace lies when he can, saying that he is going to a party at his friend's house, but instead going to the cabin to be with Paxus. It was all an elaborate lie. Everything was now a days it seemed.
"Jace, maybe it's time you go home, we can't have Daniel getting his panties twisted," Praxus said kissing Jace's lips softly.
"I hate my house," Jace murmured.
"Go home, Jace." Praxus smiled at him.
"Fine!" Jace groaned and then grinned, "Dad expects me back anyways."
"See you later."
"Bye Prax, bye Raze."
Jace leaves, obviously reluctant. Raze turned to Red.
"Red, go to bed," Raze murmured.
The ever defiant Red said, "No."
Praxus covered his own mouth, "Damn."
Raze looked at Red, his cool gray eyes narrowed, "Go to bed or I will carve up your sorry hide!"
Red flinched and scrambled up the stairs without a word. The boy was way to mouthy for his own good. Raze looked around hoping to be greeted by Blink, the girl was a pain in the ass, but that is what drew Raze in like a moth to a flame. Skull came in from the barracks.
"The girls are out right now, they are body guarding Lily and Ana while they are at them in laws or something." Skull said, "I have no idea if Rogue is okay... but she can handle herself."
Skull and Rogue are twins; they are the only ones who are blood related. Rogue has pink hair instead of blue like Skull, when asked why she chose pink she would only say she liked pink. Which is the total opposite of what you think she would like. She was fierier that you would think that she would like a different color than bubble gum pink. It goes to show that you can never judge a book by its cover. No matter what the person, they can still be a mystery even if you think you know everything about said person.
"Good because I just miss Blink and Midnight's annoying quips," Raze said with sarcasm to hide his true feelings.
"Aww and I am sure they miss being the biggest pain in your sorry ass," Praxus smirked.
Raze rolled his eye.
"So, I have to say this." Praxus started, "Jace and I talked about the two of us running away together."
"You would be caught in an hour and hung, we assassins aren't allowed much freedom, other than being allowed to murder... you know... due to the corrupt," Skull said.
"I mean, if you have a death wish, go for it. It would put your boy toy in trouble though," Raze deadpanned.
Praxus growled and wacked Raze in the back of the head; Raze took a swing at Praxus hitting him in the face. Praxus tackled Raze to the ground and got kicked in the stomach and thrown off. Both the boys took shots at each other. Skull pulled Raze up by the back of his shirt and did the same to Praxus.
"Girls, Girls, your both beautiful! Knock it off!" Skull yelled at them.
Praxus pushed Skull off and mumbled, "Jace brought some food for us."
With that Praxus left, retiring upstairs to bath and get ready for bed. Skull and Raze looked at the kitchen, on the counter was a plate filled with slices of real bread, cheese, dried salami, and best of all three bottles of wine and a jug of water. The thing is, they were given food rations. Like stale potato bread, this was good but not real, synthetic cheese, cheap water, imitation meats. Jace was the only one who actually treated them like people. Skull grabbed a glass and filled it with water and drank it happily. He made a plate of dried salami, cheese, and bread. He steals away upstairs with his plate and water. Raze took some bread, put salami and cheese on it and ate it in two bites. He makes three more and eats them quickly, almost savagely. He drained two glasses of water as well. Razw lets out a satisfied sigh and pulls the cushions off the dirty, tattered, and stained couch. He was the only one with no room. He let everyone else have a room. Raze made his "bed". He went to the closet and pulled out his old feather filled pillow Midnight made for him, he also pulled out his old, itchy blanket. He laid on the couch and pulled his blanket over him, knowing that the bed bugs were going to have another lovely fest on his blood. He closed his good eye, he was asleep in under two minutes.
The girls walked in a few hours later. Midnight smirked. She went and drew a mustache on his face with a washable black marker she found on the floor. Blink kicked her in the butt.
"You'll wake him up!" she whispered.
Midnight rolled her eyes. She might be a mute but her eyes told Blink what she would be saying. Whatever.
Rogue immediately went upstairs annoyed. She was too exhausted. Midnight yawned quietly, Blink ushered Midnight to their room. She was surprisingly gentle with the younger kids, she looked at Raze and smiled faintly.
"Night Raze," she whispered before going to her room with Midnight.
Raze curled into the couch as Blink headed up to her room. His dreams were anything but good. Nightmares have always plagued Raze, ever since he was little.
