A year later
I put Ansley in her birthday dress. She whined trying to take it off. I then went for the second outfit option. I took the dress off her and put her in a really cute onesie and a pair of jeans. Then her little boots. I picked her up. "Mama. How does this look?" Wyatt asked standing in the doorway of Ansley's room.
"Wanna know my honest opinion?" I asked him. He nodded. "I think your missing something that your uncle gave you for Christmas." I said. He ran out of the room before coming back with his cowboy hat. "That looks more like it. You look almost like your uncle." I said. But I only saw a mini version of Beau.
I let him take my hand as we walked outside. Jake met us at the door. The diamond ring on my finger glistened when the sun hit it. "Want me to take the birthday girl?" Jake asked. "I've got her." I said. Ash pulled in with a trailer of horses. My old barrel horse, and two of his. He quickly unloaded all three already tacked up.
"Hey pretty boy." I said taking my horse from Ash. My horse nickered and sniffed Ansley. Ansley reached out to pet him. "See horsey." I said. Ansley gripped his forelock pulling slightly. "Mama. Help me saddle." Wyatt said. Jake offered to take Ansley. "Go on. Your son wants you." He said. Ansley was reaching out for Jake by now.
I handed her off to him before being dragged away by my son. Instead of his sixth birthday. I let it be his fifth. He grabbed a lead line and entered the stall. I watched as he led Stone out and put him in the cross ties. I put the saddle onto Stone's back and watched as Wyatt fixed the girth and cinch. I then helped him with the bridle. "Now let's lead him out." I said. Wyatt took the reins in his left hand leading Stone outside.
I walked behind him. "Now there's my future roping partner." Ash said. "Not until he actually wants to." I said. "I know sis." He said. I then helped Wyatt mount Stone. Ash and I both rode Stone several times before letting Wyatt ride him. I then mounted my horse. Riding with Wyatt has taught me on how to hold any of my babies. I took Ansley's favorite blanket and set it in front of me. Jake handed me Ansley.
I set her on the blanket keeping my arm around her. Ash then handed Jake one of the two horses. Ansley held onto the saddle horn as my horse sidestepped. She looked around not knowing what to think. I moved my horse into a walk. It was almost as if she was a natural on a horse's back. She was calm and was relaxed. Jake looked a little uncomfortable on the back of a horse. I pulled my horse up next to the one he was on. "You alright babe?" I asked him.
He nodded. "Yeah. Just not use to being on the back of a horse baby." He said. "You don't have to live on the back of a horse to be mine." I said. "Yeah. Being a plowboy is good enough for me." He said. He reached over kissing me.
