Ava's POV:
"I was 12 years old. My dad had just gotten back from work and immediately went to the liquor cabinet like always. Since my mom died from childbirth, he had never gotten over her. I went up to my room and locked the door knowing how he got when he was drunk. An hour later, he came up to my room and knocked on the door. I made the mistake of not letting him in. With one swift kick, he knocked the door down.
'You've been a bad girl.' He said with a wicked grin plastered on his face. He pulled off his belt and started lashing my back with it. My cries were drowned out by the sound of leather making contact with skin. My skin. After it seemed like a thousand lashes, I blacked out.
When I woke up, I looked in the mirror at my back. Dried blood was crusted around cuts made by his belt. I still have scars from it. This happened so many other times that I would start sneaking out before he would come home, and crawl in through my window when he went to sleep. My hatred for him grew ever since then."
Mason wiped a tear off my face that I didn't know I shed.
"You're safe with me." He said. He pulled me to him and wrapped his big arms around me. That's when the waterworks started.
"I just don't know why he'd do that to me!" I cried. Mason just stroked my hair while I sobbed away my memories.
* * * * *Mason's POV:
The next day at school was normal. By normal I mean boring. All we did was clean the room to prepare for summer break. Until Alyssa and Aiden came in to 1st period late.
"Everybody hands up!" Alyssa yelled. She pulled out a machine gun and pointed it at the teacher. Aiden pulled out his too.
"W-w-what do you want?" The teacher stuttered.
"You to die." Alyssa replied. Then she shot him in the head. He was dead before he hit the ground. Everyone started screaming.
"Quiet down or I start shooting!" She ordered.
Other people came through the door with guns, pointing them at us. Some of them I recognized.
"Nicole?" I asked. She had been my math partner earlier in the year. "Why are you working for Alyssa?" She just looked at me with a cold glare.
"Stop talking to my people!" Alyssa snapped.
Then the bell rang. Students began streaming down the halls, including our class.
"Hey! I never said you could leave!" Alyssa shouted. She and her minions chased after everyone who ran.
Soon, the halls were filled with gunshots and screams. I grabbed Ava's hand and pulled her away. Nathan and Gabby followed close behind. We all went to the cafeteria to hide from the shooters.
"Quick! In the kitchen!" I said. We locked the doors to the kitchen and crawled under some random kitchen stuff.
"Ava, I know we broke up long ago, but I still love you. If we don't make it, at least you'll know how much I care." Nathan whispered. I tensed up at the mention of my girlfriend.
"Nathan, that means a lot to me." Ava replied.
Then the kitchen door broke open and Alyssa walked in. I heard her heels click on the kitchen tiles.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" Alyssa said as she found our hiding place.
"Leave us alone Alyssa." I spat.
"Why would I do that?" She asked, pointing the gun at Ava. "Say your last words."
"Mason, I'll love you forever and always!" She yelled.
"That's stupid. Oh well." Alyssa shrugged as she pulled the trigger. The bullet hit her in the gut.
"Nooooo!" I yelled, scrambling over to her limp body.
"Ava! Don't leave me!" I shouted.
"Kiss. Me." She whispered, barely audible.
I pressed my lips to hers, knowing it would be the last time I would get to. Her eyes started to glaze over, and her breaths were getting shallower.
"You, will, PAY!" Nathan screamed. He pulled out a gun of his own and shot Alyssa multiple times. She crumpled to the ground, lifeless. Nathan stood up, and ran out of the kitchen, firing his gun and screaming.
"Ava, don't go!" I pleaded to her dead body.
"Mason, she's gone." Gabby said, tears falling down her face. "Come on. Let's go find Nathan and make sure he's okay. I don't want to lose him too."
"No. I'm not leaving Ava!" I objected.
"I'll be right back then." She whispered. She slipped out of the room on a search to find Nathan.
Gabby's POV:
I found Nathan talking to some police officers. I didn't want to interrupt their conversation, so I hid behind a corner to listen.
"Sir, why do you have a gun in school?" One of them asked.
"Are you serious? You should be trying to arrest the killers!" Nathan yelled.
"Sir, calm down. We are following school protocol by arresting you for the possession of a weapon on school property." The other one said.
"No! You won't take me alive!" Nathan yelled. I heard gunshots go off again and turned around, praying Nathan was okay.
Instead, I found Nathan crouched over the bodies of the officers with his gun in his hand.
"Nathan!" I exclaimed. He turned around and pointed his gun at me.
"Don't. Shoot." I ordered. He seemed to recognize me and immediately put his gun down.
"God. I'm sorry Gabby!" He said, running a hand through his hair and turning back around.
"What have I done?" He whispered.
"Come on. We need to get you help." I said. I took him to a mental academy and left him there. He needed help badly.
Mason's POV:
I picked up Ava's lifeless body and carried it outside. A janitor was walking in to the building, not knowing about the massacre inside.
"I ain't cleaning that mess!" I heard him exclaim.
