Bunker, Day 2, Hour 3:00
Peridot sat in her bunk in the darkness of night, her unblinking eyes staring straight to the ceiling above her. She was lost in thought. She couldn't seem to get those eyes out of her mind. Lapis' eyes. She cursed and shoved her face into her pillow. I'm such a hopeless nerd. Too much romance novels for me. Yeah that's what it is, the romance novels taking a toll on me. Peridot looked over to her clock. Three o'clock in the morning, and she hadn't slept a wink.
A glass of water may help. She flopped out of bed and started her trudge toward the mess hall. She groggily dragged her feet until she heard the distinct sound of footsteps. She curiously peaked around the corner to find no other then, Lapis Smith. Playing solitaire quietly In the mess hall, may I remind you, at three in the damn morning. What was up with this girl?
I don't need a glass of water.
Training Day 2, Period 1, Hour 8:15
Peridot could barely stand, and she half expected to pass out from exhaustion. She swayed side to side like a wasted frat boy and the bags under her eyes were oh so noticeable.
"L Smith." Peridot called all too formally. No more of this crush business. She was training her to survive.
Lapis stepped out eagerly and walked briskly towards her. In contast to yesterday's rollcall, she seemed all but eager to go to train with Peridot. They made their way to their assigned training spot. Peridot made sure to not... gawk, at Lapis this time. They entered the room and Peridot took out her schedule. Drills. Peridot leaned against the back wall.
"Drill number one, fifteen-" She tried to stifle a yawn. "laps around." She read sleepily off her drilling guide.
Lapis had barely made it to her third lap before Peridot was out cold.
Training Day 2, Period 2, Hour 10:00
Peridot blinked her eyes open expecting the familiar darkness of the bunker. But instead getting the harsh blinding light of the training room. She pulled her blanket over her, and hoisted herself up. Except she wasn't in the bunker, she had fallen asleep in the training room and Lapis' jacket was carefully draped over her.
She looked around for Lapis, all but sure she was gone causing trouble, but she was sitting on the far wall, again playing some type of one person card game that Peridot could not recognize.
She looked at the clock. It was ten o'clock. She had slept for two hours nearly!
"You can't give me drills if you're snoring away in your dorky dream land." Lapis called non-nonchalantly. She didn't even look up from her cards. "Didn't sleep well?"
Peridot could feel the butterflies flutter, and her face grow warm.
"No." Peridot murmured.
"Me neither, but you don't see me snoring away during training hours." She retorted, picking up the cards shuffling the deck in nearly a second. "We gonna do drills or am I going to have to watch you sleep all day P-Peridork."
Did Lapis stutter? Did she call me 'Peridork'? And Why am I fine with that?
"D-Don't call me that!" Peridot muttered. It was the only thing she could think to say.
Lapis looked startled, even a bit hurt. "Oh.... Okay. Well, Miss Peridot... It's 11 o'clock, am I dismissed for Lunch?" She murmured quietly.
"Y-Yeah, you can go." Peridot sputtered out. A wave of shame went through her. She had upset her in some way. Lapis shuffled out and Peridot sat in silence for a moment. She picked up Lapis' jacket. Wait. Lapis' jacket.
"Lapis!" She called, half knowing that the dark haired trainee was already gone.
She waited for a response but never got one. She'd give it to her tomorrow. It wasn't that big of a deal.
Still she dragged her feet all the way down to her bunker.
